Chapter 2

“Drake, dinner!” Drake groaned as he got up from the couch in the living room. It had been a lazy day since there was no classes do to teachers’ strike.

“Dad, why can’t I just go to school and hang out in the library or something. It’s boring here in the house.” He sat at the table as his father brought out the food. Even after Drake’s mother died, his father managed to take care of the house and work. Luciano, his father, had promised that he would make sure Drake lived a happy life.

“Since there are no classes, you can help me around the house. I already told you I wanted to remodel the basement. The guest room is a guest room, not the game room.” Luciano exhaled as he looked at the food. The Lasagna had come out better than he expected.

Drake sighed and began eating. After his mother died, his father tried to make him happy. Luciano bought him any game he wanted and whatever he wanted, with some limitations of course.

“Putting the game room in the basement is only going to make me feel lonelier.” Drake mumbled as he sipped on his cider.

“You can invite Damien over.” His father looked at him and smiled, “he looks like a nice kid and seems to really want to be your friend.”

I don’t need friends, Drake thought to himself but kept shut. His solitude was a topic in which his father didn’t agree on.

Drake shrugged and continued eating. They ate in silence after wards.

“Start moving your game-systems into a box so they don’t get broken.” His father told Drake when they were done with dinner.

“Yes, I know.” Drake exhaled and walked up the stairs and into his room.

The walls of his room were decorated with glow-in-the-dark stars. It felt like a planetarium in there, and Drake loved it. He plopped down on his bed and search under his bed for his computer. There was a new game he wanted; Halo Reach.

"I have given you all I can, but you're not holding up your end of the bargain."

Drake sat up on his bed and looked out the window. It seemed that his next door neighbor was having an argument. He closed his computer so there wouldn’t be any light in his room, and just listened. Curiosity won over reason.

With a raised eyebrow, Damien looked at his girlfriend of nearly a year,” My end of the bargain?"

"You're supposed to be my boyfriend, but whenever Steve calls, you jump."

"Steve and I work together, Sarah. Why shouldn't I talk to him?" Damien crossed his arms.

Drake’s eyes were widening. Damien has a girlfriend, he said to himself in a matter-of-fact kind of way.

Throwing her hands up, Sarah began pacing. "You're in love with him, Damien? I can't play second fiddle anymore. I kept thinking you'd move past it, but no matter how much I want to I can't deal with it- with him."

Damien sat on his bed and dropped his head on his hands. Not this again, he thought and just listened.

Drake almost fell back on the bed. The news that Damien had been in love with a guy named ‘Steve’, and that might still be in love with him, caught Drake off guard. How come he didn’t know anything? Oh right, because he hadn’t given Damien a chance at the friendship thing. Sighing, Drake sat back and just continued listening.
