Potter Manor, March 1971
"I GOT IT!!" Came a loud shout from the front door. Running was then heard in the dining room, where sat Cassandra and Anthony. They gave each other amused looks at the unbridled enthusiasm of their child.
"Got what, James?" Asked Anthony.
"Dad! I got my letter! The Hogwarts letter!"
"Oh that? Only now? Isn't it a bit early for that? I wonder why they sent it this early. Is there any special occasion today, Sandy?"
Stifling giggles looking at her son, she said, "Nothing that I can remember."
"Mom! Dad! Please stop. You know what's special today. Aren't you both forgetting the most special day of your lives?"
Anthony laughed out loud and boomed, "Happy birthday son! How does it feel to be eleven? Or are you just preoccupied with your Hogwarts letter?"
Cassandra, otherwise Cassie, laughed too at the look of joy on her son's face. She got up and gave him a big hug and sang, "Happy birthday to you."
Then James saw Ellie, their head house elf slowly inch into the house with a cake in the shape of a huge quaffle. His grin widened, and he gave his mother a kiss on the cheek, "Thank you, mum."
Today was his birthday. But the day wasn't over yet.
4000 km away, a small flat outside Kuwait city
"Ma, where's my water bottle?"
"It's right there on the table, sweetie. Look properly and then ask me."
"Got it mom! Thanks! Bye!"
"Wait! Have breakfast before you go."
The 35 year old watched her young daughter rush off to school. It was Sierra's birthday, and she had so many plans to finish before Sierra, her 11year old excessively active daughter, came back home.
Megan called up Ashley, Sierra's best friend's mother and got down to planning the surprise birthday party.
Little did they know that their surprise awaited them.
In the evening when Sierra came home, she noticed an old letter waiting in her letterbox. It seemed quite ancient, so she was very careful in handling it. She saw a unique seal on the letter, very colorful with animal pictures on them and writing in some foreign language.
"Mom, there's a letter here for me. Why didn't you look at it?" Saying this she entered her dark house. Suddenly the lights went on, "Surprise!!" Yelled all of her friends, from school, dance lessons and piano lessons. She shrieked loudly and dropped the letter. The next few minutes were filled with hugs and wishes from her family and friends. After the initial fuss died out she remembered her letter. It was slightly crumpled n dirty but still intact. She opened it n read it. Her mother came to her and asked, " What's that Sierra?"
She replied, " It's a letter from some school. Did u change my school without telling me to some Hoggy-something in the UK?"
She replied quickly,"No, why? Did this letter say you were accepted to a school there?"
Sierra thought that her mother appeared a bit pale and shocked.
"Yes mom. Why else would I ask you this?"
"Wait. Give me the letter."she snatched the letter out of Sierra's hand and told her," Enjoy your party now. We'll discuss this later."
"Ok mom."
She walked off leaving Megan looking worried. Soon Sierra forgot about her letter as her friends called her over for her cake cutting.
