I walk down the old dirt road between Isildor and Jarka. A warm breeze blows in by face, refreshing a sense of tranquility. I take a deep breath and smell the Lilac I passed earlier. The sun was high in the sky, indicating it was noon. It was the only thing in the deep blue sky, as if it was refusing to share it with the clouds.
Down the road, I make out a figure with deep red hair standing motionless. Filled with a weak sense of curiosity, I continue down the path.
Perhaps that is the one my friends have been warning me about, I think cautiously. For the past 2 months, my friends in Isildor, Jarka, and even in Kastil told me of a woman who has followed me, stared at me even; as if I was a difficult book that she was trying to decipher. They never described her to any degree except for red hair more vibrant than anything they had ever seen.
I suddenly found myself within a ¼ mile of her. As if the 3 miles I just traveled didn’t exist. We’re on top of the hill, placed between the two towns as if to keep them from seeing each other. The hill is lush, with long grass surrounding the brown roadI take a few paces forward and I notice that the whole time, she has been staring intently at me. Her face is devoid of every emotion but a dark glimpse of joy, like a hawk before attacking its prey.
Within 20 feet, I could see her clearly. Her eyes were a light green, emitting a faint red aura the same colour as her hair was as if they were shining. She had a soft completion, like of silk. Her vivacious red hair fell perfectly around her shoulders, like a waterfall of blood frozen in time. She is tall for someone of her stature, almost my height. She looked young, but she also displayed scars that showed that she had seen her fair share of battles. Her dress was off-white, with sleeves hugging the entire length of her arms. On her hip, I could make out the glint of a sheath
I walk up to her cautiously as she held her hands together, As if she knew I wasn’t going to harm her. Couldn’t; couldn’t hurt her. Any thought I had of harming her was jettisoned out my mind as I entered her presence.
Before I thought, I caught my self calling out to her, “Hey!” in my kindest voice. She didn’t respond, her vision still fixated on me. I call out again.
Her face contorted into a grimace, as if I offended her. Her aura began to glow as her eyes faded into a complete black. “What do you want?” she asked agitatedly. Her piercing glare seemed to be burning my skin as I felt suddenly flustered.
“I just wanted to see if you were ok” I reply, trying my very best not to wince under the pain.
She laughed darkly, her aura glew bright as ever as she said scornfully “Sure you were” as if she wasn’t convinced.
Hit by a realization that I should get out of here before I get hurt, I try to turn around to leave. My body doesn’t respond. I focus all of my willpower to try and move anything at all, but the attempts are fruitless. I can’t even blink. Total fear rocks my mind as I come to the realization that I am was out of my depth by trying to talk with her. Unable to keep my body upright, I fall forward on my face. An explosion of pain erupts from my nose accompanied with a sound of a bone breaking.
I can feel a presence in my mind. Hers probably, I think.
Yes, it is, her voice says in my head; echoing off the walls of my subconscious.
I start dimly seeing memories of my life pass through my vision. Interesting…her voice says slyly. Her voice reminded my of a snake, toying with its next meal
You’re reading my thoughts! Why? I ask her silently. I look up to her face to see her eyes return to black and her aura glows again.
“My reasons are my own” she said aloud as she retracts her link to my mind. She doesn’t leave simply: she began stealing every ounce of energy I had in my body. “You are so weak; I’ve seen kids with more energy than you”. An overpowering sense of sleeplessness washes over me as my body’s paralysis fades and I completely slump over unconscious.
