The Man wasn't too happy that Max and Nina had found each other so quickly. But now he knew what they were going to do. And he couldn't wait. In the end, it would all be worth it. And he couldn't be prouder. The Man sat back down in his leather chair and picked up his phone. When he heard the soft click as the other line answered, The Man gave his orders. "Send the drone to the edge of Vegas, stay in the clouds, they both have great eyesight. Hold them back a little. They are progressing too fast. And be careful Captain. Don't make the same mistake as your prisoner." Then The Man heard something he half expected.
"What prisoner?" Weir said, sounding confused before hanging up the phone.
The Man smiled to himself. Slowly, he put down the dead phone and laughed. But he needed one more thing before starting his day. "Lucy?" The Man half yelled, half asked. When The Man unlocked the door, it only took a moment before she opened the door. "Bring me the darkest coffee please." The Man ordered. "And don't put anything in it." He added hastily. He liked Lucy, and didn't want to 'fire' her.
Chapter 8
Max looked at Nina with utter shock. Why did The Man need her? But he was too shocked to even move. "Max? We need to get moving-"
"Nina? We need to talk." Max interrupted.
"Max, I'm not kiddin-"
"Are you okay? What did they do to you?" Max said urgently. The worry on his face shown like a searchlight.
"MaxThereIsADroneAboveUs!" Nina yelled, so fast that it sounded like one word.
"Then we should follow it." Max said, suddenly aware of the whirring sound overhead. Amazingly, he heard it better than he saw it. He saw the little thing quickly dart ahead when he looked up, even though it was jet black in the cloudy night. Nina's wings returned in a flash and she took flight. Max responded by picking up his katanas and running after her. He didn't quite know what to expect but he ran anyway.
Max began to run again, the katanas in his hands. Suddenly, he felt the katanas burn in his hands, and they began to glow a dark red. His spine began to bend, and his legs and arms shrunk. Falling onto all fours, he felt hair grow all over his body, a pitch black. As all of this was happening, he continued to run. He saw hat his katanas were gone, replaced with large paws.
But Max wasn't the panther. He was simply controlling it, with the katanas acting as a remote, he gave the Panther commands, as he lay within.
As Max ran along, he heard Nina and the drone, and followed them. Running as fast as he can to keep up with the Falcon. The drone turned suddenly, as if it had somewhere to go.
But where is it going?
Suddenly, the whirring of the drone changed. But Max could not figure out what had changed. Well, until it crashed onto the roof a few feet behind him!
HOLY HELL!
Instantly Max stops moving... his legs. But the gravel under his giant paws were like marbles, and his body rolled into the gravel. Yet, when Nina landed, Max was up in a second. He watched curiously as Nina transformed back into her natural form, right next to the destroyed miniature drone. Hesitantly, Max walked up to her.
Nina looked upon him for a second before understanding what was happening. Then she started laughing hysterically. Max didn't know whether to appreciate the sound of her laugh and join in, or be annoyed. And since Max didn't know how to laugh in Panther form, he chose to be annoyed. Max put his panther in a sitting position and glared at her, annoyed.
It was a little while before she stopped laughing. "If you're in there, sheath the katanas." she said, obviously holding back laughter. I was then that Max realized the small daggers strapped to her legs. She was wearing a pair of black leather jeans, with a matching black jacket. Her light blonde hair cascaded down her shoulders like a silk waterfall. He could see that the colour of her eyes had changed too. Now, they were a beautiful and artificial purple.
