Oct. 22 Thursday(same night)
The ER, emergency room. Mallory sat in the waiting room along with her 'father'. Both in silence as they waited to be called back.
Mallory's dad looked over to his left and saw his unfeeling daughter. He saw how numb she was, deprived of the power of feeling anything. He watched as she sat in silence and stared at the floor. He took notice to her scuffed up boots and the way she picked at her nails. He saw how lifeless she was. Her pale face and tired eyes. He saw how truly unhappy she is.
He knew that it was all his fault. That it was all him to blame for the way life turned out for Mallory. His daughter. Flesh and blood.
Taking in a deep breath he began to speak "Mallory I sorry for what happened I-"
"Don't speak...just don't." Mallory interrupted him. She didn't even look up. Just spoke soft and sadly starring at the floor.
"I know your mad but-."
Mallory suddenly sat up and turned her body towards her father. With all her angered energy she spoke. "But nothing! This isn't something you can just talk your way out of. You did something stupid and horrible. Now you have to take responsibility for your actions." Mallory was on the verge of tears. She slumped back into her seat.
Minutes went by and no one said anything. For it was only the two of them in the waiting room excluding the woman behind the desk. For it was a boring town, why would the hospital be full.
Mallory threw her head back in her chair and took a deep breath. "What happened?" she questioned. "Why did you let her go?"
Her father looked at her with a confusing eye. "What do you mean 'what happened'?"
"You got into a fight then you just let her go." Mallory turned to her father "When things get ruff you just run? Huh? Is that your motto? Same thing that happened to mom right. You guys got into a fight so you let her go, only then it was you who left."
"Mallory you don't understand-"
Mallory stood up from her seat, staring down at her father. "I understand!" she yelled at his face while pointing to herself. "You are nothing but a coward! You leave the moment things get to hard for you then you expect to comeback the moment things calmed down! Thinking you can just comeback like nothing happened! Well newsflash you can't! That's not how it works you damn well that you're not wanted here." Mallory backed away from her father and walked across the room. Her back turned towards him, she softly said "Just go."
Dan buried his face in his hands. When he resurfaced he was in tears. Looking up at his daughter's back he spoke.
"It's true I am a coward, but I am here to make things right. I'm here for you and only you. I know that I'm late but please if you would-"
"Enough!" Mallory turned to face Dan tears running down her face. With hatred venom she spoke "You don't get the right to say that. It's to late for that." Mallory's voice cracked. She wiped her tears and continued to speak "You're the reason why we're here and the only you can do is what your best at...leaving."
Dan rose from his seat. He held out his hands in pleading way, reaching out to Mallory.
"Please...please don't say that." Dan pleaded.
Mallory shook her head "You left Aunt Becky at the bar. You just left her there intoxicated...had her fend for herself." breaking down Mallory shaking "Police found her passed out behind some dumpster...cold and near death." Looking straight into her father's eyes "And for what? You left her there for what...over some stupid argument on whether you should stay or not. Well here's your answer go. Just go and be done with our lives. Go back to your life out there and never come back."
At this point they were both crying. One with tears of anger and one with tears of self loathing. Mallory stared at the ground, no emotion in her eyes "Every Father's Day mom would get drunk and pass out while I cry myself to sleep. Hoping to close my eyes and that maybe this time I won't wake up." Mallory looked up at her father "I have no more hope."
Dan was speechless. He knew the damage was bad but not this bad. Just then a nurse came out. Telling them that Aunt Becky was going to be okay and ready to see them. Dan was going to say something but Mallory spoke first.
"You can go and say hi to her...that is if she's not mad...but after that you need go. It's what's best."
"For you or me?"
"For everyone."
With that she walked out following the nurse. Dan followed shortly after, still trying to make sense of what happened, what's going to happen.
