A/N chapter 6 has pictures of what Aunt Becky and Dan (the dad) look like

Oct. 24 Friday

Aunt Becky didn't survive the night.

Apparently something went wrong during the night. Her body temperature dropped and her body was shaking uncontrollably. She soon went into a coma after that. Then three hours later Aunt Becky passed away.

Mallory sat in a state of shock for the whole day. Dan was on the phone dealing with calls and other 'manner' all day.

As Dan hung up the phone, he let out a tiring sigh and massaged the bridge of his nose. Dan then began to make his way upstairs. Hunched over and dragging his feet with every step. He made his way towards Mallory's door. Dan hesitated whether to knock or not. He knew that after everything that happened it was time to tell the truth. Time to tell Mallory the truth in hopes that she will forgive him. Dan slowly knocked on the door.

"Yes?" Mallory called out.

"Can I come in?"

"Um-yeah sure." Mallory spoke while wiping the remainder of her tears.

Dan walked in and took notice to how sad Mallory was. "It's okay it cry. No one will blame you."

"It just feels weird. I hated both of them." Mallory said in a trance, staring out the window. Not staring at the night sky or the moon and the stars that danced around it. She was staring into space, the nothingness.

"Who?" Dan asked. Mallory quickly shot her head towards Dan. She stared straight into his eyes, as if she was speaking to his soul through the hazel colored door. "Who do you hate?" Dan asked again, this time more clear with his question.

"Mom and Becky...I-I disliked them both with a passion but now I'm crying for them. It's not because I miss them or cared about them. It's like now I have no one so I'm free to leave but I forgot how." Mallory slowly looked away. She was lost in a train of thought.

Dan looked at Mallory with caution. 'She wanted to leave' he thought. Seemed like a trait that runs in the family. He decided to speak up, finally doing what he came in to do.
"Mallory there's something I-"

"I had a plan and everything." Mallory interrupted. She got up from her seat and began to walk to mirror on her wall. Mallory stared at her reflection.

"I was going to move to Pittsburgh but then my mom died and my aunt came. So I stayed I'm not sure why...just the thought of leaving slipped my mind. So now they're both gone." Mallory reached out and touched the mirror. Crying once again she continued her speech.

"Why am I still here in this horrible town. I could've left when mom died. I don't care for Aunt Becky or you. I had no reason to stay. Why am I still here?" Mallory turned around to face Dan. "Why am I still here!" She shouted at Dan, repeating her question.

Dan closed his eyes and took a deep breath. 'Here goes nothing' he thought.

"I need to tell you something. I need to tell you everything in fact." Mallory turned back around towards the mirror. She stared at his reflection." Where do I start?" Dan let out a shaky breath then continued "It's true I am a coward, I left you and your mom because I couldn't handle having a daughter." Mallory started sobbing quietly still staring at Dan's reflection.

"But when I left I knew I made the biggest mistake, so I decided to make it right. I wanted to come back and be there for you and your mother but I had no job or money not the greatest education. I wanted to come back and actually be a real father who can provide for his family." Dan spoke with sorrow and sadness in his voice, not able to look at Mallory.

"Your mother didn't want me back, she hated me and did everything she could to get back at me. She put out a restraining order against me. I couldn't be near her and she had you so I couldn't see you. I would have fought for custody but I was broke at the time. So I moved in with your aunt, she really helped. Got me a job, though it was at a fast food restaurant but a job. I was promoted to assistant manger and my boss came to me with an investment. I put everything I had into it. And now I own that restaurant along the ones around the country."

By now Mallory had stopped crying. She was angrily picking at her nails, a habit she had. Mallory scoffed and looked back at her dad. "So what you're some billionaire now."

Dan smiled weakly "Yeah. I-I was working on trying to get you back...legally." Mallory rolled her eyes. "Your aunt and I really tried to get you back but with the restraining order and your mom not responding to papers sent by the lawyers...it was...it didn't work." They both were in silence.

Dan took a small step forward as he continued "But I'm here now...we can both leave and have a fresh start." Dan looked at Mallory with pleading eyes. She looked the other way.

"Was Aunt Becky talking about?" Mallory spoke up "With the pills and the 'plan'. What was that about? Huh? And why...why were you going to leave before...when you and Aunt Becky got into an argument. Why were you going to leave again?" Mallory tried holding back her tears "Why?"

Dan said nothing. He just stared at her, speechless for words. That was the one thing he didn't want to explain.

Mallory took his silence as her que to leave. She turned around and pushed right past him towards the door. Just as Mallory was about to open the front door, she stopped. "I just need some air." She yelled out. Dan heard the front door open and slam shut. He stood in disbelief of what just happened.

In the middle of the woods both Mallory and Calie sat drinking cheap wine that was stolen from Calie's mom, getting drunk off their asses.

Calie listened intently as Mallory spoke and complained about her life. Spilling her guts on everything. But it's not like she didn't already know. Calie was the one who called her aunt it the first place. You see Calie was in on the plan to help Dan, she knew her best friend would be better off with him. Even though she knew she would be loosing her only real friend, it was worth it.

For hours till the sun came up Mallory talked while Calie listened. But Calie had on question on her mind.

"So are you leaving with your father?" she asked so slowly due to the alcohol. Mallory gave her dear friend a look of disgust.

"No. Why would I-"

"Oh come on your always talking about leaving...soo here's your chance." Calie interrupted, still speaking with the affect of alcohol. "Plus your dad is rich."

Mallory stood up with anger traveling through her body. Now sobering up.

"First of all he's not my 'dad' he's Dan, just Dan, and what does it matter to you that he's rich or not he still abandoned me. I want nothing to do with him. I can make it on my own I can..I-"

"You can nothing Mallory just go with him and be happy for once. Just stop being so stubborn and-"

"Go to hell Calie." Mallory spoke with a poisoned tongue.

Now it was Calie's turn to sober up. "What's your problem? It's the truth and you know it."

Both girls stood staring at each other with standoff stances. Mallory scoffed and Calie rolled her eyes.

"Ya'know what I'm done. I'm done fighting and crying...just can someone be there and console me not try and tell me what to next...what the future will hold...just for once." Mallory walked past Calie, bumping into her shoulder.

"Where the hell are you going?" Calie asked in disbelief.

Mallory said nothing but just kept on walking. Straight through the woods and onto the road. She kept walking. Only being followed by her shadow created by the sun.
