"Okay now girls, we're about to leave for our trip. You know the rules, and Faith-"

"Yeah mom?" she responded very anxiously.

"We've decided that you guys don't need a babysitter this year, so you're in charge Faith."

"Really?" Faith and I gasped in unison.

"Why does she get to be in charge?" I sounded more irritated then I would have liked, but I was just too confused. At that point Faith thought it was a good idea to open her mouth.

"Well Carmen, it might be because I'm older than you, smarter than you, prettier tha-"

"That's enough Faith!" My dad said with a hard look. "Your mother and I need to know that you two will be okay while we're gone." His face slowly softened, but the sound of worry didn't leave his voice."

"Okay" Faith said sarcastically.

"We love you both very much." Mom said it as if she had a feeling of unease plaguing her, but at the time I thought nothing of it. I had no reason to worry considering this was their regular yearly routine trip. They never told us where they went and I never asked. It was like clockwork, they would leave Thursday night and get back home Sunday afternoon.

"We know" Faith called out from the couch while her attention was occupied by her phone.

"We'll see you when you get back" I said enthusiastically, "Love you, bye!" Little did I know that as I said those words to them, it would be the last time I ever saw them alive. BANG, the sound of the front door slamming shut jars me out of my dream.
