I heard a gentle click and a beam of light shone from Calum's flashlight. We stood up and followed the light to the hallway, and soon enough Mali-Koa was behind us carrying another light.
"What just happened?" She questioned.
"I don't know. Let's go to the cafeteria and see if that's where everyone is." I replied, trying to remember what we were supposed to do in case of a power outage.
We arrived in the cafeteria shortly after meeting up with my parents and Kyle, who also did not know what was happening. Kyle handed me a spare flashlight and soon enough the hallway was bright enough for us to see where to walk.
"The power was compromised." Sam explained.
"Either there was a technical issue that can be easily fixed, or someone cut a wire." David added.
"Like, someone in here?" Kyle interrupted.
"We think that maybe someone accidentally shot something necessary, or someone cut it intentionally. There's no way we could know unless we go out there, and we can't go out unarmed." Sam said.
"Well why don't the raiders get ready and go out there? They don't have to explore just see if there's something obvious." My dad stated.
"Don't you think that's a little dangerous? We could be dealing with thirty armed people." Calum argued.
"I say we stick it out for a day or two then send em' out." Ferra said, as quietly as she arrived.
"We can't live off of this generator power for more than twenty four hours."
"Toby's right. We haven't had the supplies to install a larger generator yet." My dad added to the argument.
"Well what are we supposed to do?" I finally added. I don't usually speak up, but this possibly could be a life or death situation.
"Let's vote. Raise your hand for sticking it out."
I looked around, and so did Spencer after her proposition.
The majority of us had their hands raised in the air. Toby, Spencer, Me, Kyle, Calum, David, and my dad all remained silent.
"Okay. So, we stick it out."
The lights above us flickered and everyone looked worried.
"We have MRE's in the closet. No need to use up the power on cooking."
I walked back with Ferra, Mali-Koa, Joy, and my mother to get out our dinner.
Dinner was interesting, the meals were pretty good for no electricity. Most of us ate in silence, still processing what happened and why all of these things have happened in such a short span of time.
Mark stood up. "Did you hear that?"
