They sat in the waiting room at Doctor George Davis surgery. It was 10am and Marcus and his two best mates Ben and Jack were to get their monthly injection. They were told it was a vaccine to guard against some sort of disease, though it appeared to Marcus that only males were receiving it and not all of them. It was a directive from the Mayor, Michael Caulderon.

When they thought about it, it had coincided with the steep rise in crime. This was only their second time, but they were all aware of the change of thinking and lack of emotion that seemed to grow inside.

Marcus had known Davis all his life, he had been their family doctor. They passed small talk as the vaccine was administered. Marcus could feel a surge inside as it coursed through his body. His mind was travelling at a thousand miles an hour as they left the building, the three of them were to visit Mayor Caulderon at his office. The building was all darkened glass that rose high into the sky. It was so different to the surrounding buildings that were soft white, bright in colour that all looked similar, the sidewalks were paved and gave a stark contrast against the dark asphalt road.

Two burley, dark-haired men greeted the guys and Marcus' focus was snapped back into the present as the door to the car opened. Caulderon's office was on the top floor, he was a slightly balding man with tanned skin and a cultivated moustache. He was smoking a huge cigar and had what looked like a scotch in a crystal glass. Pleasantries were exchanged and they listened intently as the details of the job was explained. Over the next two weeks they were involved in the criminal underworld that had built up since Caulderon had become the Mayor. They witnessed drug deals, jewel and money theft and most distressing, murder... Although they knew it was wrong, there was no emotion or remorse.

Marcus had been dating Casey Davis, the doctor's daughter and the families dislike of Caulderon was widely talked about around the dinner table. Marcus felt the same about the man but on a personal level and the injection seemed to be the reason these feelings would disappear. The time came around for their next round of injections and as Marcus sat in the chair, and as the doctor prepared the injection, a plan formulated in his mind. A deep conversation took place with the doctor as Marcus went through his plan. He and his two friends would be injected with a different substance that the doctor had manufactured, it would enhance their natural abilities, make them stronger, quicker and increase their instincts, this would give them the edge when it begins...

Having had their tonic they set off for the city and Caulderon. On the way to his building they went through the plan one again. Caulderon had many men, all of them at this point would be high on their injection and ready to kill. They approached the building and entered the underground car park, this was the easy bit. They parked adjacent to the lift, the two large guards in front of the lift suddenly reacted, they approached the car, their revolvers pointed and aimed, shouting instructions for them to get out. There was four high-pitched thuds before the two guards hit the ground in a pool of blood. Ben had made his way on foot from the entrance and caught the guards from behind. The other two, now exited the vehicle and hatched the next stage. Caulderon would be on the 25th floor and they set about moving through each floor neutralising all of Caulderon's men as they went.

Eighteen minutes later they entered the 20th floor. They had made their way through maybe twenty to thirty men up to now. This floor was where the majority of Caulderon's men would be. They knew that if they could get past this floor not much would be left. Caulderon always had around a dozen men with him in his office. They had seemed to have, up to now, not alerted other floors as they worked their way up. Whatever it was they had been injected with seemed to be ding the trick. The speed of movement and thought coupled with the super strength proved to be to much for Caulderon's guards.

Five minutes of tactical concentrated suppressed gunfire combined with stealth like capture rendered over thirty of the guards either dead or locked away. The three guys had all got minor wounds that were stinging as the sweat enveloped them.

As they ascended the final four floors towards Caulderon's office, they each went through the final stage of the plan. As the door of the elevator opened on floor 25, they burst out in a volley of gunfire. The whole thing was over in a minute but felt like an hour. Ben and Jack had both been hit but not fatally. Marcus was hit in the neck but the bullet only grazed the flesh, though he could feel the blood trickle down his neck. Caulderon's guards were dropping one by one and as the cartridges emptied, and the deafening sound of gunfire ceased only Caulderon was left. a bullet had tore its way through his right arm and was bleeding heavily and as everything became silent, the true extent of their ordeal slowly dawned......

Would things ever be the same for these three, would the city ever truly recover and what would become of Caulderon? only time will tell..........
