He was on TV again.
Akaashi Keiji was so calm, so articulate, so handsome, it was no surprise that he was your favorite actor. You looked forward to any movie he was in, even if it wasn't your usual type, simply because you wanted to see more of him.
You always felt a small pang of jealousy when he posted pictures of himself hanging out with other Hollywood A-listers. How wonderful would it be if you were in their place? Able to talk to the one person you admired most?
You never deluded yourself into thinking it was possible to be his friend. He was famous and you were a nobody. A nobody with a part time job you could barely handle and a cramped, falling-apart apartment.
Still, you watched every interview, every movie, and every TV show. You took it all in as if you needed it more than air.
Your heart fluttered every time he smiled or laughed. He was so soft-spoken and quiet- never the loudest in the room and free from all drama.
You sighed as you watched the current interview, curled up in a blanket on your bed, eyes never straying from the interview.
"Do you believe in fate?" came the interviewer's question.
"I do," Akaashi replied.
He said it so confidently, so purposefully, that it sent a shiver down your spine.
—--------------------------------------------------------
You ran your fingers over the spines of each book, taking in each title and author, looking for the perfect book to take home. The bookstore was quiet and mostly-empty. It was a weekday afternoon, after all. Everyone was at work or school.
All except him.
Ball cap low, sunglasses on, as though he didn't look like he stepped right out of a billboard.
You froze, watching as he browsed the mystery section. Of course he liked mystery- he always seemed like the type to enjoy the slow burn.
Just leave, you told yourself, don't embarrass yourself.
As you turned to hurry away, your purse hit the shelf, causing a book to plummet towards the ground. Before you could even try to catch it, slender fingers caught it and put it back on the shelf.
"Thank you," you managed to choke out, blood rushing to your face.
"Of course," he replied, sounding so polite that it made your spine tingle.
You ducked your head in embarrassment. He probably got recognized all the time and probably hated it. You tried, once more, to hurry away, when he said your name.
"Huh?" you turned back to face him, confusion written all over your face.
"(Y/n). That's your name, isn't it?"
You blinked in shock, "How did you-"
Akaashi smiled, "We've met before."
Your brain stopped working. There was no way! You would remember meeting him.
"I-I'm sorry," you said softly, "I don't remember."
"That's okay," Akaashi said just as softly, "It was a long time ago."
"I'm usually good with faces," you said, "But I can't-"
"We were five," Akaashi blurted, "We were at summer camp and you gave me a bandaid after I scraped my knee."
You could vaguely remember a little boy crying, but it was so long ago that the memory was blurred. How on earth could he remember such a thing?
"You're sure it was me?" you asked.
"I've never been more sure of anything in my life," he replied, "Do you want to get coffee sometime? We could catch up."
"Yes!" you gasped. Then you embarrassedly corrected yourself, "I mean, yes, I'd like that."
—-------------------------------
The coffee shop he had invited you to was a small one with very few people inside. You waited at a corner booth, still in disbelief that he had invited you. A small part of you worried he wouldn't show, but you were proved wrong when he walked through the door- hat and sunglasses and all.
You perked up at the sight of him, watching as he calmly made his way to you. He had a content smile on his face, which was a rare sight, as he very rarely smiled in interviews.
"What would you like?" he asked.
"Oh, um," you stuttered, "A cappuccino, if that's alright."
Akaashi nodded and went to stand at the front counter, waiting patiently for a worker to notice him. Thankfully, she didn't seem to recognize him as he ordered a black coffee for himself and a cappuccino for you.
He brought the drinks back to the table and the two of you began to talk. It wasn't all about him, like you might have thought. Instead, you went back and forth about just about everything. Favorite songs, movies, TV shows, books, etc. All the while, you sipped your cappuccino.
Slowly, conversation began to grow difficult. You began to feel light-headed.
"Would you like to go home?" Akaashi asked you.
"I'm sorry, I know we were having fun but..." you trailed off, unable to remember what you were about to say.
Akaashi moved quickly, scooping you up and bringing you outside, where a limo came to a screeching stop. By then, you were fully unconscious.
—--------------------------------
When you awoke, you were on a fancy white sofa in a huge living room. Akaashi sat across from you, smiling gently.
"You passed out and I couldn't get your address," he explained calmly, "So I brought you here."
"Oh, thank you," you murmured. Your mind felt oddly foggy.
"Where do you live?" Akaashi asked.
You stared at him for a moment, "Um, I don't know."
Akaashi's smile grew, "That's alright, could I have the name of someone to call to get you home?"
You wracked your brain, searching for something. A name, a face, anything- it was all gone.
"I-I don't know," you said, fear shooting through you, "I can't remember."
Akaashi's smile grew until it was borderline unhinged.
"Good."
