"Hayes, push! I know you got that shit in you!" The coach said as I completely lifted the bar in the gym and placed it back in place. I took a deep breath before I sat up. "Good job! I see you're in much better shape than you were in that last game I saw you play. Whatever you've been doing, keep it up. It's not often that we start Freshman, but I'm sure you got this." he said as he patted my shoulder before moving onto the next person. "Yo J!" I heard while I stood up and looked over my shoulder. James was walking over...Jazz's brother. I wasn't sure what time of time he was about to be on for real. "I see you been working out and shit my boy, you must've slowed down on that other shit." he said to me. "Health is wealth, had to get my mind and body together for real. Especially if Imma be out here playing college ball." I said as we headed to the locker room. "Good shit, I respect it. So...you really got married and shit? I see the ring." he asked and I just shot him a look. "This is just me talking. It don't have shit to do with my sister and whatever the hell y'all had going on, you know me." he said in his defense. "Yes, I'm really a happily married man. Hell if it wasn't for my wife, I don't know if I would be so focused or in shape for real." I told him. "Respect! I had seen you a couple of time in the park with uhhh...the lil rockstar nigga..." "Riek. Yeah he's a good ass trainer for real. Jack of all trades and shit." I said. "Shit I might need his services for real. I done got a lil slow over break." he said. "Tell you what, we meet at the park at 10am every other day, we go back tomorrow if you wanna come through." I told him and he nodded. "Bet! I'll see y'all then." he said as he walked off. "Congratulations by the way." he said. "Thanks!" I said as I ventured back into the locker room to get myself together before heading out. I showered and changed my clothes and went on about my business. I was walking through campus when I seen my fine ass wife walking my way. I actually watched how she interacted with people, she was the sweetest person. Sometimes I don't understand how she really puts up with me, but we here now. "Mrs. Hayes." I said as I approached her and she smiled. "Mr. Hayes." She said as I put my arm around her as we headed towards the parking lot. "How was practice?" she asked me. "It ain't no walk in the park." I said with a laugh. "...but it's not bad though. I feel good." I said. "Good, that means our morning runs and your workout sessions with Riek been paying off." "Hell yeah, if he wasn't already doing his thing with the music, he could definitely be a trainer. I already got him somebody who's interested." I told her. "Good shit! I mean he could always do that on the side. Or hell...you did say he's not really into the public eye thing, so maybe it might be something he wants to look into in the long run." "Shit I forgot about that part. At least I know you listen when I be talking." I told her. "Always! You know I pride myself on being a hell of a listener. Plus I guess it's the perks of being an empath. I instantly start empathizing with others in their situations for real." "One of the many reasons that I love you." I said as I kissed her cheek before I opened the car door for her and closed it behind her. "Babe, you got plans for the day?" she asked me and I shook my head. "I was thinking we could go to get some things for Sincere for back to school. I know it's some time away, but this is when all the supplies are on sale and the clothes are discounted too." she said. "I mean...we can do that, but you know we don't have to just shop when it's a deal. I mean I got money, we don't have to worry about all of that." I told her. "You can tell you were born with it." she said with a laugh. "I know you got money, just like you know I got that spread too. But Babes this is how the rich stay rich, you make wise money moves. I mean we gotta start thinking generational wealth, yeah we got it, but let's make sure they got it. Feel me?" She made some solid ass points, that I hadn't even considered. "You have a point. But at the same time, there's still a lot that we have left in us to guarantee that. I mean you're right, don't get me wrong, but I'm just saying." I said to her. "I mean it was no diss to you or anything, but I just know you never had money worries and that's good, but for those of us who did, I be trying to be extra careful." she said. "It just sounds crazy, because of course I know what you dad is to the tech world. But I also get the separation because that's your dad's money, not yours." "True, but that only went so far. He wanted control and when I allowed him to control me, I got everything I ever wanted. And then when I did what he didn't like, he was quick to cut me off. Even though we're good now, I'll never forget what he did, so I stay with a plan B." she said. "As long as you know you don't need one when it comes to me." I said as I grabbed ahold of her hand and kissed it. She smiled as she looked over at me. I can't imagine the shit that she went through, I could only really make sure that she wouldn't go through that again. At least that was my goal in the end.
