You could call me lucky; if lucky means half of your body being paralyzed. Considering the circumstances, I shouldn't even be living right now, let alone living an almost normal life.

The only thing that makes you and I different, is the fact that I'll never be able to walk again, while you take that for granted. Walking wasn't so much of a big deal to me either. I was always running and playing soccer with my best friends. Now I watch my friends play from the stands, rather than on the field.

As soon as I found out I could never play soccer again, I packed up all of my trophies and awards into storage. I don't want the constant reminder that I can't play anymore; it hurt too much. My friends never try to bring up the game when I'm around, since they all still play, but I think I've learned to be alright with it.

Now I live with my roommate Alyx and we both go to the University of Los Angeles, which was a dream come true. We are both in our third year of college and we both major in nursing. We are a lot alike, but also very different. She is sweet yet sassy, while I am sarcastic yet shy. Our friendship might not make any sense, but we just like to call ourselves unique.

I have class on every weekday except for Thursday, and one class on Sunday. When class isn't on my schedule, I like to paint, read, bake, etc. Anything to keep my mind or hands busy. There isn't much to do when half of your body can't do it with you. I usually go down the street to a local coffee shop and do school work when I need to focus.

Today is Thursday so I don't have class, but I had a bit of homework to do. As much as I wanted to ignore it, it had to be done. I put my MacBook, notebooks, and textbooks into my bag, making sure to check for pencils and pens. Before I leave to go to the coffee shop, I send Alyx a text that I am leaving our apartment.

I lock the door behind me and made my way down the sidewalk. It's only two blocks away so I was there within five minutes. Someone walking out of the cafe opens the door for me kindly and I thank them. The aroma of coffee fills my nostrils and I wait in line to order.

I scan the warm and light area before ordering an iced latte. I wait for my drink to be served and get a straw. I bring my drink to a small table and set it down. I then move the chair as quietly as possible out of my way so my wheelchair can fit in the space. I accidentally hit the table with a wheel and my drink hits the floor. Only me.

Trying to draw the least attention to myself, I get napkins and come back to the table to see a boy already cleaning it up. He doesn't seem to work here, and I definitely don't know him. He looks up at me with emerald eyes and smiles.

"Hi, um, you didn't have to clean this mess. I'm sorry." I said trying to sound polite while I was in shock. When things like this happen, usually people give me sympathetic looks and not bother to do anything about it. I mean, I don't think people ever would, but now that it has, it feels good.

"It's no problem at all." He stands up and goes to throw away the napkins. I sigh with relief and take out my homework. I finally get started, but I am interrupted by the boy who cleaned up my latte off of the floor. I didn't expect him to come back, let alone take a seat across from me.

"I'm Harry." The incredibly charming and beautiful boy says. I don't know why he would be sitting across from me, since I made a fool of myself two minutes ago.

"I'm Mara, nice to meet you." I said.

"You too." He said and looks around a bit before looking back to me. "You look like you could use another coffee." He grins and I can feel my cheeks turning pink with embarrassment.
