Chapter One

My last customer walks out the door as the time strikes 11:00 pm. I tap my fingers on the glass table, and brush my hair behind my ears. Another day at work.

I finish by wiping the dirty tables, and sweeping the floor. I throw the dirty rag into the sink, and head for the door. I flip the open sign around to the closed sign.

Walking out of the building, I take a deep breath of air. You can only be cooped up in a bakery for so long. My keys jingle as I lock the door.

I turn from the bakery, and began to walk home. It began to rain, and I started walking faster. I hug myself and shiver. My boots make squirting noises as they touch the wet cement.

Looking up, I spot the apartment I lived in, though it was hard to see anything in the dark. I stop hugging myself and quickly walk up the small set of stairs leading to the door. I turn the handle and push the door open.

"Ah! Jessie Hulstings! Lovely weather, isn't it?" Mike, the man who worked at the front desk welcomed me.

I close my eyes and shake my head. "Oh yeah, It's absolutely beautiful out there." I answer, sarcastically.

Mike looks a bit confused, but then shrugs, continuing with his paperwork. I ruffle my hair, hoping to make it drier. I started to climb up the stairs.

I don't take the elevators, meaning that there's a chance I'd end up in there with somebody else. I prefer to stick to myself, and not get close to people.

I reach the floor of my room, and walk down the hallway, water dripping off of me. I stop at room B 15.

I reach for my keys and unlock the door.

"Thank heavens." I close the door behind me and plop down on my bed. I've had enough of today, and I didn't plan on doing anything else for the rest of the night.

I sit back up, and head over to my desk. I take a seat on my office chair, and begin to turn on my laptop.

It turns on almost immediately, and I open an email from my boss, and what looks like 10 emails from Aleesha.

Aleesha is someone you would call a nerd or a geek. On my first year of high school, she kept provoking me and following me wherever I went. The next year, however, she began to tell everyone fake things about me. Stuff like; I was her best friend, I tell her everything. She began to apologize, giving me lame excuses on why she said those things.

Aleesha hasn't stopped trying to befriend me ever since high school, no matter how many times I told herto get lost. She had always tried to get my attention by bringing me gifts, and she still does to this day. Like I said, I'm not one who gets close with other people, and especially not Aleesha. No matter how many times I've pushed her away, he kept coming back.

I deleted all of her emails right away, not bothering to open them. Instead, I open my boss's email. It was just another of his complaints about how bad my attitude is at work, and how we've been losing customers.

Yet again, he gives me a warning. I roll my eyes and delete it. I gaze at my screen, in deep thought. I blink a couple times and then close my laptop.

I looked out my window, rain making it harder for me to see. I jump as I hear a knock on my door.

"Miss Hulstings, you have a visitor." I recognize Mike's cheerful voice. Who would want it visit me at 11:30 in the night?

I walk over to my door, and pull it open. I felt like slapping Mike when I saw who he had brought. It was Aleesha, the last person I wanted to see.

She gave me a dorky smile and waited for me to let her in. I raise my eyebrows.

Mike gives Aleesha a friendly nod, and then leaves.

"No! No, you're not coming in my room. I've had a busy day, and I'm about to get some sleep anyway." I cross my arms.

Aleesha looks a bit annoyed. She holds out a cup of coffee. "I got you this, because of your busy day."

"For what? A midnight snack? Go home...and how would you know about my busy day before I told you?"I grit my teeth at him.

Aleesha nods, and then puts the coffee onto the ground. She doesn't move, only looks me in the eyes, a mixture of excitement and bewilder.

"I'm having a party tomorrow nights, and you're invited." She says, curious of my answer.

I roll my eyes and cross my arms.
        "No, I'm busy that day."

"I could always change the date! When are you free?"

"Actually, you don't have to. Just carry on partying with your other friends."

"But that's the thing, you're the only one coming! It'll be like a super fun girly slumber party."

I almost puked at the thought of that. I raise an eyebrow and sigh. "Actually, I'm not into those things. It's time for you to go, I'm off to bed."

"But... I could...change it to something else..." Aleesha's voice began to shake, and she was clearly hurt.

"Goodnight Aleesha." I slowly close the door, letting out my breath.

I rub my forehead and sigh. I needed some rest. I don't bother changing out of my work uniform, I just turn the lights off and fall down on my bed.

I feel more relaxed, realizing it would be Saturday tomorrow. I stare blankly at the ceiling, realizing I couldn't fall asleep.

I groan and turn the lights back on. Walking back to my bed, I grab my notebook and a pencil.

I felt like drawing, hoping it would get my mind off things. I was starting to draw a girl, staring out of her window. Her hair was made out of curls, and she wore a long sleeve shirt and Yoga pants.

Before I got to start on any details, my eyes began to get heavy, and I laid down, my notebook and pencil still in my hands.
