Winter in New York. A Gossip Girl checklist to surviving the cold: Cashmere stole for ice-skating at Wollman Rink, Jacques Torres hot chocolate for window-shopping the holiday displays and the perfect date to the Senior Snowflake Charity Ball.
"B, I have other things to do today." Serena complained as she sat in the outside courtyard with Blair and Ophelia. "Serena, this is the holiday event for high-school seniors. The crème de la crème from all the big private schools will be there. The pictures dominate the society pages through New Year. I need a ringer." The Waldorf girl insisted, looking back at the paperwork in front of her. "Wait, all of these guys asked you?". "Of course. Do you think Angelina Jolie even considers a project without an offer on the table? I'm strictly a pay-or-play dater."
"Just out of curiosity, who is in the lead to play 'Guy With No Future'?". Chuck questioned, taking a seat beside Ophelia as he joined the table uninvited. "What makes you think I'm not looking for something long-term?" Blair whispered more this time, staring into the Bass' eyes intently. "Call it a hunch." "Keith Nelson." Ophelia couldn't help but scoff at the name, wondering what her cousin ever expected to see in that guy. "Are you kidding? Ever seen him without gum? His oral fixation alone would drive you insane." Chuck reiterated, knowing the brunette better than she knew herself.
Adjusting herself slightly on the seat the heiress looked between the pair, neither desperate to cave to the other but both so inexplicitly obsessed. "Andy Clark." "Outscored your verbal on the SATs." "I like an intelligent man. He can whisper mellifluous nothings in my ear." Blair sassed, determined to one up the man in front of her. "You think you like an intelligent man. The moment he gave you a history of the word 'mellifluous', you'd rip out his tongue." Chuck pointed out causing Ophelia to nod her head in agreement. "Want me to cross that one off your list B?". The heiress whispered, picking up the pen from in front of her cousin and putting a mark through the name without a word of confirmation.
"Hey, um, I'll call you later." Serena announced as she grabbed her stuff from the table and rushed off towards her ex-boyfriend yet again. "So, who's next?". Chuck leant closer to the Waldorf girl as he spoke, earning a disgusted look from her but not feeling deterred in the slightest. "You two are insufferable. I'm out." Ophelia spoke, grabbing her own textbooks and heading off into the halls of Constance High, doing her best not to dwell on the fact she had begun to feel quite lonely.
All of her friends were either in relationships, or in Blair's sake, had someone pining after her no matter who she dated instead. For the first time in years the heiress had found herself completely, utterly alone. Theodore and Carrington were happy together, Serena never lasted more than a week solo and the ravenetter hadn't heard a word from Nate since his dad was locked away. Not that the heiress would ever verbally admit it but for a brief moment she contemplated calling Carter Baizen and seeing if he would be her date for the ball, at least that way she wouldn't feel so pathetic in her own eyes.
