"Excuse me." Justin said with his raspy monotone voice, holding the dirty plates from the table. He pushed passed me, making my shoulder fly back. I rolled my eyes. I huffed and turned around to face him.

"I wouldn't kill you to wait until I move to, oh I don't know, avoid injuries." I spat. We had just finished dinner. There wasn't any talk going around, just an occasional, "pass the potatoes."

I hated coming over when he was mad. But I did it to be nice to Pattie , Justin's wonderful mother. I talked smack to Justin in my head while washing the dishes.

"I'll do them." Justin said, taking my place and grabbing the sponge out of my hand. He scrubbed the bowl where the pasta was made while I stood there, watching his facial expressions, or should I say looked at his stone cold glare. I took in his God like features, but his eyes were dark and the not the usual hazel. He felt my gaze on me and he sighed heavily.

"Go home okay, love you." He kissed my forhead and turned back to the dishes. I understood that he was trying to be nice this whole night but his anger got to him. I hugged him from behind.

"Okay," was all I said before waving at Pattie sitting on the couch, her eyes glued to her favorite soap opera, and stepping out into the warm summer wind. My hair bounced behind me as I made my way to my black Jeep. Hopping in, I brought the engine to life and drove our onto the road.

What got into him? I would've asked but I know it would have made him angrier. Shaking my head, I made my way home. The light sound of rain drops above me kept me company since I
didn't like radio stations so much. All they do is play mainstream, I mean it's nice to dig deeper into music and discover a whole new world.

My phone vibrated against the cup holder and I glared at the caller ID.

J.

I hesitated to pick up, knowing he'd be mad and the call wouldn't work out anyway. I pushed the thought aside and slide the green circle to answer, arriving at a stop light.

"Hello?" I said calmly, not wanting to set him off. The light soon flashed green. I pressed on the pedal to keep moving forward.

"Cass, I just wanted to remind you that I won't be at school tomorrow." He said, sounding better than before.

"Oh yeah, howcome? Is everything alright? Do you want me to bring home any work for you?" I questioned, pulling up in my driveway.

"I'm perfectly fine, no I got it, look I have to go now okay? Bye Cass." He spat. I heard a beep and I put my phone in my back pocket, sighing. I stepped out of my car and locked it. My shoes scuffed along the smooth walkway as I made my way up to the door, seeing my dad's car here too.

"Dad, I'm home!" I yelled for him, setting my stuff on the coffee table near by. I peeked my head around the corner of the cozy kitchen, seeing my dad with a tub of strawberry sorbet icecream and a huge spoon.

"Hey kiddo, where did you step out to?" He questioned, plunging his spoon in the half-eaten ice cream. He rested his elbows on the granite top island.

"Just had dinner at Justin's" I smiled, also grabbing a spoon and digging in. Strawberry sorbet wasn't my favorite but man was it good. I filled my mouth with the cold item.

"Cassidy Primrose Katniss Hawthorne, and you didn't bring me any leftovers? What kind of daughter are you!?" He yelled, putting his hands on his hips. He was joking, but he put on a good act. I giggled then soon I threw my head back in laughter.

"T-that's not even my n-name! What is this, the Hunger Games?" I struggled to say in between laughter. My spoon dropped on the counter and I was soon rolling around on the floor.

"Hey, don't laugh at me missy." Dad said, helping me up off the ground. I calmed down, sighing and smoothing out my shirt. My laughing fits soon came down to a giggle.

"How about I make you some dinner, pops." I smiled, heading for the fridge.

"That-" he kissed my forhead "-sounds great. I'll be upstairs if you need me." He picked up his work boots and trudged upstairs. He looked awful tired considering he was the only parent trying to maintain us both and keep the house and have it running with water and electricity. I need a job.

Putting my mental note aside, I got out some brussel sprouts and started making dinner for one.
