Prologue
Rain fell around a tiny house tucked away in the hills, making the grass and air new again.
A young couple sat on the porch of the house, watching it rain together. Their futures seemed to spread out before them, just waiting to happen.
The young girl suddenly raised her head off of the guys shoulder and looked at him for a while before saying, "Zack?"
"Yes Danielle?" He answered without turning to her.
She hesitated, biting her lip out of nervous habit. "Do you think we will get married?"
Zack then looked at her as she looked down quickly, a blush spreading across her face. He put a hand under her chin and lifted her face so that he could look her in the eyes.
"I know we will." He answered.
A small smile crept onto her face. "Really? You truly believe so?"
"Of course. And we will live right here in this house!" He paused and looked around the porch. "That is, after I fix it up a little."
She giggled before laying her head back on his shoulder. She played with the fabric of his shirt for a while, daydreaming of her future.
"I've always wanted to be a mother." She said tenderly. She raised her head off his shoulder once again. "Just think of it Zack!" She enthused. "Having beautiful kids running around this house. Kids with your hair and eyes an-"
"No. No kids." Zack said in a steely tone.
Danielle frowned. "But Zacky.. Why not?"
"Because Danielle.. I just don't want any."
A playful smile spread across her face as she began to tickle him. "Alright now, I won't take no as an answer!"
Zack's hand suddenly shot out, grabbing one of her wrists tightly. Danielle looked at him in surprise, pain surging through her wrist. Zack's face was hard and an unusual coldness was in his eyes.
"I said NO children." He said through gritted teeth. He released her wrist and returned his attention to the now sprinkiling rain.
Danielle sat in shock. She looked away quickly from him as a million thoughts went rushing through her head.
"Hey now." He said.
He cupped her face with his hands and pulled her back to him. "You know I love you. I didn't mean to be so forceful with you... I just don't want kids is all. Forgive me?" he said sweetly. He put on his best puppy dog face for her.
Danielle pushed all of the thoughts that were screaming at her to get away from him out of her mind. How could she resist the face anyway?
She smiled back and kissed him on the check. "I forgive you dear."
