The shroud in the sky covered the forest in moments. Swallowing the stars faint glow that night, the air was cold. The bitter rain nipped at my skin as my eyes slowly opened, my vision still blurry... Where is Dad? Where is my Moth-
My eyes widened. "No.. No no no no no...." I horsley mumbled to myself as memories from moments ago came flooding back to me.. "Ce-ra..." I whispered faintly, my throat still partly closed off from the blow I had taken. "Cera.. Cera.." Where is she? Nowhere in sight...
*CRASH! CRRRUNCH*
The sound of bones snapping sounded through the atmosphere, as a flash of lightning and booming thunder made its way through the forest. I sat my crippling body up and turned my head to see a horde of beasts gnawing away at two bloody corpses. A familiar grey hare's ear in view underneath one of the massive paws of a beast with brown, matted hair and sharp fangs. I wretched and covered my mouth, keeping what I had left of my last meal. Tears fell down my hot cheeks as I squinted my eyes shut. I started to shake silently. Until I heard faint wailing..
"Mama help.. Daddy.. No no.. Stay away.. Waha..!"
My Ears perked up and I looked to the far end of where the beasts had fed, a little bunny girl was there and one of the sharp toothed demons had been making its way toward her.. Creeping closer.
"Cera.. Cera!" I called out to her and shakily stood up, trying to recover my balance. I hobbled towards her and stepped in front of the beast. The attention of the rest of the horde had now turned to the both of us, and the small fragile girl behind started to cry harder.
"Cera.. Shut up! We have to get out of here.. It's not far from home.." I scowled at her harshly, then focused only on the eyes of what was in front of us, before shortly moving my eyes in the direction of home, trying to signal to her.
"But De-" She tried to protest and I pulled her up onto her feet with my shaking hands, staring into the eyes of our hungry hunters, to not draw their attention to her, but me.
"We have to go.... NOW!" I pulled with all my might and got her ahead of me giving her a shove. "Run fast!" I watched her pulling my attention away from the beasts watching me. She started to go and they looked towards her getting ready to hunt their new target. Shit... I picked up a rock next to the tree's base, and threw it as hard as I could at the mangy thing in front of me.
*THWACK! Yelp!*
The rock hit the beast in front on the nose hard, and looking into its eyes, I closed my own briefly. Taking a deep breath I said to myself.. "I'll be right behind you.."
The other beasts had their attention towards me now. I sprinted in the opposite direction, my feet shaking underneath me. I ran through the trees as fast as my feet would take me. Running side to side, I was trying to throw my pursuers off my trail. I heard a long howl, knowing they weren't far and jumped onto the closest limb I could reach from the ground. But when I looked up, I saw they weren't following me anymore..
No...
I jumped from branch to branch. After running out of trees I could jump to, I got down and sprinted in the direction of our home.. The lightning shot across the sky and lit up the scene of the dark black night.
Coming into view, I saw our home, and wolves running up ahead. But where's-
"Ahhh! Noo, let go of mee!" A high pitched tone rang through my ears again, a wolf up ahead was tugging on the girls skirt and pulling her back to the deeper part of the forest's entrance. I ran up to the door and opened it up as fast as I could. Grabbing the girls frail body by the waist, the skirt ripped and the fanged creature fell back, hitting the front of the pack and crashing. I fell to the floor from exhaustion and took a glance at the pack recovering from the fall. I shuffled back from the ground, still holding the girl in my arms close, and gripped the doorframe.
The drooling beasts sat up and snarled in our direction, the one in front began to crouch, then leapt for us. I pulled the heavy door shut with all my might. *Thump!* "Ah!" I fell back slightly from the slam of the beast. Then sat up on my knees, struggling, and reached my hand out over the girls head, turning the heavy lock to barricade the door. I heard frantic scratching from the other end, then whimpering, as padded foot steps faded off.
*Sigh*
I sat back against the door.. Placing a hand on my chest. I opened my eyes and looked around the quiet.. Dark living room, and hung my head in exhaust. *Tug Tug* I felt a quivering hand pull at the top of my stalking.
"Delaney... Why didn't Ma and Pa follow us..?" I looked at my sister's big, teary, crimson red eyes, and whipped the tears from under them with my thumb. I lifted my black capped hood to cover my tear soaked face, and pulled her tightly into my chest.
"Ma and Pa went away.. They had to leave.."
