Adam followed the little girl as they headed deeper into a part of the town they never went into. Adam didn't expect much, but as they walked further, his amazement started to show on his face.
For a nordic town, there was much vegetation creeping up the walls. The air also felt hotter, and as he analyzed his surroundings, Adam deduced that it was because the houses were closer and taller, blocking the cold wind. The path they passed through had a dome-like cover made with flowers and vines, and the warrior could see little birds peeking at them curiously.
Adam only felt amazement at the beautiful scenery and tried not to get too distracted and lose sight of the giant child.
However, one too many glances at the flowery walls made him lose his guide. When he glanced back before him, the little girl was gone. The warrior panicked, wanting to call out her name, but not having gotten it. He also didn't want to cause a ruckus in a stranger town by shouting little girls left and right like a pervert.
Looking around him, he saw that the path was a straight one, without any intersection. Based on that, he deduced that the girl must have gotten far ahead without him noticing, probably worried about her cat stuck in the tree.
The warrior, also worried about the cat, but much more about the unsupervised child, hurried to follow the path. Not much longer after losing his guide, Adam arrived at the exit of the enclosed path, his sight blinded by the sun coming through the opening.
Putting a hand before his eyes, the warrior crossed the opening, hoping that the child would be waiting there for him.
However, once he regained his sight, what greeted him was even more shocking.
A small but beautiful courtyard stood in the middle, surrounded by flowers and bush, with a simple fountain shooting out crystal clear water. Tall houses encircled the place with only the sun standing tall right in the middle of the hole between them, shining down like a blessing.
Adam was in complete awe at such a magnificent view, as such, he didn't even notice Evan until the half-giant stood before him, blocking the sun. The warrior focused on his lover, puzzled about what was happening.
Before he could question the man, Evan dropped to one knee before him.
Adam fretted, ready to help him up as he wondered if he was injured, but the ex-slave took out a little box from his pocket and put it up before him, looking at the worried Adam with a smile. The wheels turned inside Adam's brain and as he finally understood what was happening, his eyes became wet with happy tears and his hands started to shake.
"Adam, my love, I have truly never been happier in my life than when I'm at your side, and I know it will always be the case. You know I'm not good with words, so I lack the means to express just how much you mean to me. I want you to know that I love you, and I will always do. I want you to be my Adam, my man, my lover, my partner, my pet, my master, my everything, my world. So, Adam, will you please do me the honor of marrying me?" Evan asked, and even though he sounded confident, Adam heard the crack in his voice, saw the way his hands shook as he opened the box to reveal a stunning ring, and noticed the fear of rejection in his bear's eyes.
Not wanting to make his lover suffer any longer while waiting for his answer, the warrior threw his arms around Evan, bringing him close as he chanted yes again and again like a mantra.
"I would b-be honored to marry you, Evan." Adam said once he secretly wiped away his silent tears, his smile wobbly as he stopped strangling his bear and distanced himself from him. Choosing to ignore Adam's red eyes and runny nose to not make his hedgehog embarrassed by pointing it out, Evan gently took his lover's hand in his own.
The ex-slave looked his master in the eyes as he put on the ring he had personalised with Will on his lover's finger. Once the ring was in place, Evan looked down at his master's hand, enjoying the contrast of the white ring on the dark skin.
Adam took this opportunity to collect the other ring, much bigger, from the box. Looking at his man, his husband, with a grin, he also took his time to slip on the ring on Evan's finger, before pecking it once it was in place.
"Thank you, Adam." The half-giant whispered like a prayer, looking at Adam with so much love in his eyes that it made tears flow down the warrior's high cheekbones again. Adam laughed at his emotional state, swooning as Evan helped him wipe his tears with his rough thumbs.
"Thank you, Evan, for organising such a perfect proposal. Was that what you were doing with Will?" Adam asked as he started to understand the embarrassment that the giant had displayed, and the little girl who seemingly came out of nowhere. Evan nodded as he played with their intertwined fingers, not getting tired of stroking their rings together.
"This is made with a rare mineral, it is indestructible and adapts to the wearer's skin. It can't be taken off, and will always keep its shape. I know you don't like fancy jewelry, so I asked Will for a simple ring, white to match your beautiful dark tone of skin. If you look closely, you will see small designs of spears and weapons. I thought it fitted you more than flowers. I hope you like it." Evan explained, looking nervous like a child waiting for praise.
Adam looked closer, finding the designs his lover spoke of, carved with precision and details. He also found the drawing of a hedgehog with a fierce expression, which made him raise a brow.
"L-look, I have one of a bear!" Evan hurried to explain as if worried that Adam would be mad. The warrior did look, and found a cute chubby bear with a deadpan expression on his lover's ring, along with weapons and a shield. The warrior laughed at the great representation of his partner's spirit animal.
"I like it a lot, you did so well." Adam patted his lover's head and braced himself as he saw Evan lunge for him, taking him in a tight embrace and kissing him until they were both breathless. They separated and looked into each other's eyes, before breaking into a low laugh at their silliness. It reminded them of their younger years, when they were always making love every chance they could. They still had a burning passion for the other, but they had also matured and found other ways to feel fulfilled with each other. They didn't need to connect their lower bodies anymore to feel connected with the other.
They stayed like that, hugging each other, softly kissing from time to time and just enjoying the warmth of the other for a long time, until their aching muscles protested against the cold hard floor, reminding them of their age.
Hey dear readers, did you like the proposal? Did you expect it?
