Cold Open – Residential Therapy Center Upstate NY, 6 Weeks Later
A quiet campus. Trees. A bench. Ronnie sits with a blank journal in her lap. A staff member walks by and gives her a small nod. She gives one back.
Ronnie (V.O.):
They say recovery starts the moment you decide not to give up. But sometimes, that moment is slow. And quiet. And you don’t even realize it’s happening until one day you look around… and you’re still here.
She picks up her pen. Writes one word: “Today.”
(Cue theme music.)
---
– Chandler’s Apartment
Chandler is staring at a new postcard from Ronnie. It’s just two lines: “Still working on me. But I watched a squirrel steal someone’s Pop-Tart today. That was cool.”)
(smiling faintly)
"She’s still in there." He said smiling at the letter
(hugging him from behind)
"So are you." Monica told him
---
Therapy Group Session (Center)
Ronnie sits in a circle with a few other teens. The therapist smiles warmly.
"This week’s topic is “things we’re allowed to feel.” Anyone?" The therapy said
"Angry." Some teen
"Ashamed." Another teen
"Hopeful… maybe." Ronnie said quietly
The group nods. Ronnie doesn’t smile—but her eyes flicker with something new.
---
– Letter from Jake (Voiceover)
As Ronnie reads the letter, Jake’s voice plays. She's in bed, reading under a soft lamp
Jake (V.O.):
Dear Ronnie,
You don’t have to write back. I just want you to know the world didn’t feel right without your sarcasm in it. I miss arguing about music and getting weird looks from teachers when you said something that sounded like it came from a vampire philosopher.
I hope you’re healing. Even a little. That’s enough.
—Jake
She rereads it twice. Then tucks it into her journal.
---
– Family Therapy (Chandler & Ronnie)
Chandler sits awkwardly on the couch in a family session. Ronnie walks in slowly and sits beside him.
"Ronnie, what do you want to say to your brother?" The therapist said
(after a long pause)
"You stayed. Even when I didn’t want you to. Even when I didn’t want me to."she said to him
(choking up)
"And I always will. Whether you're okay or not." He told her
"I believe you now."
unsure, quiet, but connected.
---
– Group at Central Perk
Back in the city, the gang sips coffee and writes postcards to Ronnie. Joey is struggling with his.
"Do I say “hang in there,” or is that too cliché?" Joey asked them
"Say “float gently.” That’s what I tell my plants when they’re sick." Phoebe
"I said “we miss your eye rolls.” Rachel said
"I wrote a dinosaur pun. I may be part of the problem." Ross told the group
Everyone laughs. Chandler watches them with soft gratitude.
---
– Ronnie’s Journal (Montage)
Ronnie flips through the blank pages of her journal. Now, some are filled: sketches, single words, bits of lyrics, clippings of things that made her feel something.
Ronnie (V.O.):
Some days still hurt. Some days I don’t talk. But I breathe. I try. I feel things again. And that means I’m still here.
She writes “Trying is winning.”
