I got out to the track and stretched before starting at a jog for a few laps. Ah I've missed the warmth of the sun terribly...
As I switched from a jog to a run my ears flinched, I heard several pairs of feet coming from the woods, ignoring them I continued my running I felt them get closer.
I could hear there muttering, it was starting to piss me off...
"Has he had any sessions yet?"
"Pretty fast for a first timer, but still..."
"Surprised he hasn't tried to leave yet,"
"He's tiny, even with his speed, he wouldn't make it far,"
"Plus, I hear that Sharpe is his Guardian!"
"Yikes, yeah he's not going anywhere, not without Draven hot on his tail,"
I sighed and slowed as I got closer to them, "What's so bad about Draven?" I asked, giving them a slightly aggravated look.
"You mean aside from the mind control? He's one of the toughest Guardians here, he ruins almost every kid they give him!" One boy said.
"Ruins them how?" This should be interesting.
"Last year a kid figured out how to shut out his mind control, so Sharpe tied him down to a table and used some crazy machine to force blood down his throat," Another explained, shivering, "The school has a system; you get here, they fatten you up and humiliate you until you submit willingly, then they let you work it off, then they send you home. But that kid wasn't even given that option, once Sharpe got him big enough he was sent back to his parents, and not one vampire questioned him about it."
Quite strange, I thought, as usually the vampire society doesn't approve of weakness, so forcing weight on a young vampire and then sending him back seemed like something quite a few would oppose.
"And why is that?" I asked.
One of them shrugged, "No one knows, but the Headmaster approves of his methods so there's nothing anyone here can really do about it."
"But I don't know how to block his mind control so I'll be fine," I said, but they didn't look so certain.
"Have you disrespected him at all?"
"Countless times," I said, "The worst I've gotten from him is a beating, I think you guys are just over reacting,"
They all seemed to shake there heads, "He likes to let you think that it's over, but it isn't; his punishments don't end until you walk out the door, believe us, he'll destroy you when you least expect it,"
A sort of queasiness settled in my stomach, "Well thanks for the advice, I guess..." With that I turned and went back inside.
"You're back quick," Sharpe's voice made me jump slightly.
I turned to see him leaning against the wall, avoiding the sunlight, arms folded across his chest in a domineering manner.
"Y-Yeah, I'm done. Talked with some of the other boys." I tried to keep it short, not really wanting to talk but not wanting to get in trouble for not answering.
"What about?" Ugh, why is he starting conversation?
I shrugged, "Running; they thought I was quick for a newbie,"
He looked at me, as if trying to figure out if I was lying, "That's it?"
"Yeah, why? Oh and I didn't see that other guardian you mentioned."
"Dammit Jer, that lazy ass," He muttered.
I didn't respond to that, mostly because I didn't want to but also because I didn't know how.
"You hungry?" He asked.
"No, I drank just a little while ago, remember?" I said as we started walking back towards my room.
"Well you didn't have much, and I want you to be able to drink on your own, so you're going again." It clearly wasn't a question, but that didn't stop me from opening my fat mouth.
"I'm not hungry," I groaned, "I don't even think I can do it by myself," The thought of all those men chained up and bleeding made me hungry, but the idea of me drinking from them made me sick.
"Well it's not optional, so you will try, even if I have to leave you in there for a week," He growled.
"I've gone longer without drinking," I replied.
He pushed me into the room and slammed the door behind him, "You need to stop with all these snide remarks, because if you think what you've got going on right now is bad, you're dreaming! This is a walk in the park and if you don't keep that sass to yourself you're going to be in a world of hurt like you've never known!" He snarled, gripping both my arms in his hands and pinning me against the wall.
"Give me your worst," I said with a smirk, daring him.
"Oh, you're in for it now!"
