MOSQUITOES EXISTED ON EVERY PLANET, APPARENTLY. Ivy swore that she had killed about ten thousand of them while crouching in the bushes outside of Sanctum. She, Bellamy, Gabriel, and his Children were hiding as a motorcycle drove toward them.
There was a man waiting on their side of the shield to be let in, and they were eavesdropping. The first man got off his motorcycle and nodded at the second one. "Sector D is all clear. You're free to head back to Sanctum with the Primes."
"I thought I was gonna miss the namings," the other guy answered, and Ivy frowned. "Check Sector H when we get back. We can't take any chance today."
The first man nodded, climbing back on his vehicle and driving off. "Namings plural?" she whispered, and the rest of the people around her looked around, equally confused and concerned. How many were happening? How many were they going to have to stop?
Gabriel took this as a reason to reveal himself and sprint toward the shield. Ivy whisper-yelled after him. "Gabriel!" He broke through the shield since he was a Nightblood, crying out in pain from the radiation as he stumbled to the ground, right in front of a guy with a gun. Ivy groaned, "Sometimes I just have to take a deep breath and wonder why some people are just so stupid."
"Crazy suiciders," the Sanctum guard scoffed, pointing his gun at Gabriel's head. Gabriel then swept his leg under the guy's feet, disarming him and swapping positions.
The people in hiding came out, and Ivy came to the realization that he had been faking the pain. That made a lot of sense. Octavia called, "Gabriel, what the hell are you doing?"
"You said 'namings'," he shouted at the man instead. Ivy had never wished that she was a Nightblood more. She hated having to stand on the other side of that shield. It felt like a secret club that she and a bunch of other people weren't a part of. "How many? Who's coming back?
"I don't know. All of them, I think," the man answered.
Gabriel looked up at the others, and by the look on his face, he was planning to not follow the plan. "I can't have Russell murder more innocent people."
