KATRIN'S P.O.V
"Explosions... on the day you wake up needing somebody and you've learnt it's okay to be afraid but it will never be the same" ~ Ellie Goulding, "Explosions"
I've seen a dead body before, not by choice but because there was no one else alive left to do it once the explosion over in Syria happened. I just never thought I'd have to see one again... let alone ten.
Their small bodies are posed in the fetal position, their hair matted to their skin (the one's that still have skin anyway) with mud and blood and the last one, the four year old, her eyes are wide open, big gaping pools of lifeless green staring up at me.
Who could kill someone so innocent?
Well you shot that girl in Syria. What kind of a person does that make you?
My stomach gives a flip and a sickening feeling rises in the back of my throat.
"I will be right back" I tell Spencer, holding up a finger before I stagger off, clutching the trunk of the nearest tree as the world spins and I throw up all over the ground.
Someone comes up behind me and starts rubbing my back, pulling my hair back from over my shoulder in one quick swoop as I continue to empty my stomach on the floor.
"I'm so-"
"Shh, It's okay" I'm surprised when I turn to see Emily Prentiss behind me.
She holds out a plastic water bottle which I take with a "Thank you" before she leads me away and sits me down on a rock.
"Are you okay?" she asks
"Mm-hmm" I mumble, my cheeks full of water which I gulp down quickly before coughing and saying "Yep"
"That's good I thought maybe.... Kat your nose is bleeding"
I swipe at the warm thick liquid running from my nose and look at my jacket sleeve, stained dark by my blood.
"It's a side effect" I tell her with a shrug as a river continues to dribble down my face
"Of what?" she asks, coming to sit beside me
"Too many concussions I guess" I say and she opens her mouth to speak but is stopped when her phone buzzes in her pocket.
She pulls it out and slides the icon to answer before standing up, signalling to me she'll only be a second as she begins pacing around with her phone up against her ear.
I can't hear what"s being said over the constant drumming inside my head but I definitely hear the word explosion mentioned more than once before she comes and sits back beside me with a heavy sigh.
"What was that about?" I ask and she shakes her head slowly before turning and whispering to me
"That phone call I got on the plane was from an agent in New York"
"So?" I"m not following her well
"They'd had six suicide bombings in the past hour all timed perfectly to hit virtually unused freeways and abandoned parking lots with only a few people in them"
"Why haven't you told Hotch?- Wait, why are you telling me?"
"Because they left messages at the bombing sights that they'd strike again if we came so until more happened I decided to hold off telling Hotch"
"And?...."
"And just then I got a call saying the same thing happened in Las Vegas a half hour ago with no specific targets and in each city it was over in under ten minutes".
