"It's time." Dad said, walking into my room."Is everyone almost ready?" I questioned him nervously.
"We've got an hour before we head out, but we've decided.." He was interrupted by Sam and David bursting through the door.
"Let's go!" They said in unison.
"Okay. See you in a little while Carter." He said quickly, pulling me into a hug.
Wait, what? I'm going out with them so he'll see me the whole time?
I must have had a confused look on my face, because he answered right away.
"You.. You aren't coming."
"What?!"
"You, and your brother are staying here. It's not up for discussion."
I scoffed in annoyance. "I'm going."
"No, you aren't. I'll see you in a few hours." His voice had risen to a deep and loud authoritative tone.
Then they left.
"Why couldn't we go?" I asked Kyle.
"Because our little sister decided to wander off and then when she got in trouble she didn't know what to do!"
"Kyle.." I said, realizing that he took it too far.
"What, now I have to walk on eggshells around you too? I thought mom was bad, but apparently you are too. I'm going to my room. Do not follow me." Right after he finished, he stormed off. This time I listened to him and didn't follow him.
He was kind of right though, I mean; Alison didn't come to hardly any of the trainings. She could have seen someone with a gun and her first instinct was to shoot, so she shot, missed, and the person shot back.
Or maybe, she came across someone she used to know only to find that they weren't the same person.
The possibilities are endless. So, instead of standing here like I'm crazy, I figured I'd just go to bed and get a good nights rest.
I walked down the hall. It was quieter than usual tonight.
"Carter? Why didn't you go out?" A voice called out from behind me.
I turned around, facing the young boy.
"Oh, hi Liam. You scared me. My dad made me stay because I guess everyone's afraid that I'm gonna go missing too." I replied, not caring how much of a douche I sounded like.
"Maybe they're scared you're going to run off to try and find her."
"I don't know, but either way I'm not happy about it."
"How is it out there anyways? No one will answer me seriously when I ask."
I couldn't resist telling him, although I didn't tell him the part about seeing the people at the store, or the man and woman in the yard.
"It's.. Um.. Not normal. There's hardly anyone.. Outside anyways. It seemed.." The word I was thinking of didn't seem right; but it also has lost its meaning.
"Eerie." I finished.
"Oh." Was all he said. What could he have thought was out there? Unicorns and mermaids? He is just young though, maybe a big imagination.
I used to be such a dreamer, I was so hopeful in everyone and everything.
"Well I'm gonna head back to my room, thanks for being honest Carter." He waved bye, and I watched him walk around the corner of the hallway.
When I got to my room, I reached into a small bag inside my first drawer, and pulled out a tiny, purple sleeping pill. Taking a sip of water from a half-drank water bottle, I floated it down and sighed before putting on my pj's and hopping into bed.
If Ali is alive, I wonder if she's also in bed? Maybe she's trying to get back and she goes on the run during night time. She could be right outside the door..
I let my imagination run wild while I settled down and got comfortable. Within minutes I was out for the count.
