Andy was a mute, he never talked but his thoughts never shut up. He was ordinary to the average human eye, although he was far from it. He would never, talk or eat at school, he never even opened his mouth; lots of people called him names, but his favorite was mute. He took joy in being the mute, the mute who wouldn't shut up, the mute that was always thinking. Andy was possibly the smarted boy around, but no one could ever know. He always dressed in all black; his clothes covering every piece of skin it could; he would've covered his face, if the school would allow it, but they didn't, so instead he used his jet black hair.
School started in half an hour, it was the first day back after the summer holiday. Andy was up and ready to go, as he walked down the stairs he saw his father.
"Ah, Andy!" His father announced, "First day, excited?" Andy nodded in reply, not speaking a word. "Okay, talk one day son, please." He begged, to which Andy frowned, and began his walk to school. He quickly he found himself at the school gates.
"Here again mute?" Drake, the school's bully asked. Andy nodded and began the way into his home room. Luckily Drake didn't do anything to Andy, unlike he usually did. Once he got to C6, his home room, he saw a boy sitting in the back row, he had never saw the boy before, not last year, or any year.
"Hey kid," the boy greated, Andy looked around before waving, "Don't you talk?" Andy shock his head, "Okay, well, I'm Ashley, and you are?" He asked, hoping to make Andy talk. Andy walked next to Ashley and wrote his name in the book Ashley had open.
"Well, Andy, I will make you talk one day," Ashley declared, "Even if I have to tickle it out of you!" Ashley began tickling Andy's side which made him laugh quietly, "See! I made you laugh! That's one step closer!" Andy shrugged and sat back in his chair as the bell rung. Students filled the room, shortly after the teacher joined the room.
"Hello students! I see everybody is here!" Mr. Todd announced, "This year we have a new student joining us; Ashley stand up and tell us a bit about yourself!"
Ashley stood up, "Hi, my name is Ashley Purdy, I'm living with my grandparents now because my parents, um" Ashley stopped, everybody in the room was staring at him, apart from Andy; who looked at the desk.
"What did your parents do?" Mr. Todd asked.
"They, um, died..." He whispered, the room went silent, Andy couldn't believe his ears. Hopefully no one would find out about his personal live.
"I'm sorry to hear that," Mr. Todd apologized, "As today is the first day we will all stay in here for the day, have fun!"
Suddenly a group of preppy girl ran towards Ashley, claiming that they could be friends.
"Sorry girls, I like my friend here Andy, he's cool." Andy was shocked to say the least.
"No he's not, he's a mute!' Jessica said, disgusted.
"If you don't except him, you can't be my friend!" Ashley declared.
"Andy's my bum buddy!" Lucy shouted, Andy chocked on the water he was drinking, writing down quickly.
'No I'm not! I can't be I'm-" he stopped, thinking of what to write, he decided to just tell the truth, 'I'm gay!'
Everybody gasped, he knew if he told his other secret he would have police officers questioning him.
"Yay! Gay Andy is the best Andy!" Ashley danced.
"Are you gay too or something?" Jessica asked.
"Yep!" Ashley replied, everybody rolled their eyes.
"Your parents deserved to die," Lucy told Ashley, Andy couldn't believe what she said. But he couldn't do anything about it, he promised only to write twice a day and he already broke the limit. He just walked away, to the pet goldfish the class named Susan. He had a whole conversation with her in his mind about how The Fish President, Gillbama, should fight against the evil fishermen capturing poor, innocent fish. About an hour later the bell rung, signalling that it would be second period if they had lessons. Ashley walked over, messing up Andy's hair as he stood next to him, Andy groaned whilst fixing his hair. Ashley poked the fish tank Susan was in, Andy grabbed his hand, pulling it away from the fish. He smiled as he watched Andy continue run his finger along the thin glass. Shortly after he read that the fishes name was in fact Susan. Andy was so concentrated on the gold fish that he didn't notice he had gone to get his book.
'Hi Andy! I guess you like Susan, who named her that? Did you? How old is she? Can you tell me what you did over here for the hour? OH YEAH! Do you have a phone number?' As Andy read the writing he got more and more excited, he could finally have a best friend, no one had ever asked for his number, so he was happy. Instead of writing his number he got his phone out, showing Ashley his number. He copied the number into his phone book. As he quickly wrote his text.
Ashley- Hi, it's Ashley, what color are your eyes? They're beautiful
Andy - Hi... Um, they are electric blue...
"Alrighty children! Everybody sit down! I'm going to give out your timetables." Mr. Todd announced, Andy and Ashley received their timetables, seeing they had all the same classes Andy gasped. He was so happy that his one and only friend had all his classes with him. Ashley thought the same, although he had one other friend, Drake. The bell, signalling Break, had rung, the teenagers ran out into the playground, Ashley asked Andy if he wanted to join him in meeting up with his friend. As they walked towards Drake Andy frowned, it couldn't be Drake, be Bella, the blonde girl behind Drake, please.
"Hi Drake!" Ashley shouted.
"Hey Ash!" Drake called, "You didn't bring the mute did you?"
"Yeah, what of it?" Ash asked.
"Nothing I guess," Drake shrugged, surprising Andy. As they had their conversation Andy listened in, laughing at parts, "Hey Andy, what's up?" Drake asked. Andy stood quietly looking at his feet, he didn't want to answer, there was only one year left of school and he didn't want anyone to have a chance of finding out his secret. Shortly after they continued their conversation, not forgetting Andy but not letting him participate in the chat. Eventually the bell rung and everybody made their way back to their home room. Mr. Todd greeted them, telling them to make a little story on a piece of A4 lined paper. Ashley began writing about a boy who was unable to speak, a little like Andy, but one day he met the love of his life, Minnie, who taught him how to speak. He pronounced the words perfectly, every time he would speak she would fall more and more inlove with him. Where as Andy was stuck on finding a topic to write about. As he wrote his first word the words just wrote themselves. The story he wrote was about his mind, but no one could know that, it was an empty field, with a single house on it, in the house lived a boy named Christian. Christian lived in that house all alone since birth, when he turned 18 a boy named Jake came and helped him build a colony, soon they fell in love and ran the town together.
"Alrighty kids, pass your story to the person right of you. Once you have your partners story if it's good I will read it out," Mr. Todd exclaimed, the children followed the instructions, Ashley passing his to Jessica and Andy passing his to Ashley. Once Jessica read Ashley's story she stood up, rushing over to Mr. Todd, informing him to read out the story she was given. Mr. Todd began reading out the story, smirking at Ashley at parts. Andy was shocked, as he was almost all of today, because Ashley must of wrote his story about him.
"It's for Andy Sir!" Jessica called out, Ash laughed at the simplicity of her brain.
"Okay Sir, it might be for Andy but does that change the plot of the story? No, of course it doesn't, it's still the same story, so even if it's for or about a person what does that change in the story?" Ash announced, standing up, walking to receive his work. Mr. Todd shrugged, amazed by the young boys brain.
The school finally ended and Andy ran from the school doors, all the way home. He returned to his room; writing furiously in his diary about the new kid; Ashley. Suddenly his phone beeped, indicating that he had received a text.
Ashley - Hey gorgeous ;)
