(Sean's POV from chapter 28 of Chained. I wrote this just because it was such an emotional moment and I thought it would be interesting to see Sean's side of what happened. In no way is this supposed to be needed to enjoy my book Chained, however to those who want to read more about what happened during the book that Veri didn't get to experience this is for you.)

Swinging my sword lodged into the dragons blue scales, Justin plunged his sword into the dragon's neck and ran forward cutting the creature's throat open. Blood poured out onto the street as the beast tried to roar in pain but couldn't since its throat was split open. Looking around I tried to find Veri, I had lost track of her ever since the white dragon showed up. She had saved my life. A pain filled roar echoed across the city signifying that the white dragon had been slain. I smiled knowing that Veri had to have been the one to slay it. My beautiful flower could take on a whole army and she would too without thinking for a second about her own safety. She needed some serious protecting, good thing I was around. My back was in severe pain from where the dragon had scratched me, every movement was like being scratched all over again.

Without giving it much thought I ran through the streets making my way to the other dragon. Cheers of victory rose above everything. Finally I could see the large white reptilian corpse, a wing was hanging awkwardly off of a building and several soldiers lay on the ground wounded. I looked around trying to find the long brown braid that belonged to her. Brent walked over to me with human and dragon blood splattered on him.

"Have you seen Veri?" I asked worry starting to creep into my mind. She should be here, I should have seen her by now.

"Not since right before the dragon was killed. A number of the soldiers she was fighting with got injured." Brent informed me worry filling his eyes. Anxiety filled my heart as I ran by Brent and started scanning the bodies on the ground. I hoped that I wouldn't find her, I hoped that she would suddenly come running towards me. A soldier was walking by and I grabbed his arm.

"Where's the female warrior?" I asked fiercely and the man simply shook his head not knowing and then continued on his way.

"I'll help you look." Justin said suddenly next to me. I nodded my thanks and then went back to searching for her.

"Veri!" I called out for her and received no reply, Justin and Brent called out her name as well. Please, Veri, just be unconscious somewhere and then when I find you you'll wake up and be upset about how you missed all the action. Veri just respond and let me know you are alright. Fear and panic where becoming the only emotions I could feel as the pain in my back become almost nonexistent, my whole being was concentrated on finding her. I needed her, I had to tell her that I needed her. I've been so stupid about everything and I need to make it better. Running from body to body I tried to find her. I froze in a strange terror I had never experienced before.

Her braid splattered in blood and the sparkle of dragon scales was lying there above her head. Her body was lying stretched out and completely unmoving. No, that can't be her, I don't want her to be like that. Soldiers were now running around with water buckets and torches but the light from the fires made by the dragons was bright enough to illuminate her body, her beautiful body that was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen. But right now all I could see was her arm, red and black with horrific blisters. Stupid girl had lied to me about being alright. And now she lay there unresponsive.

As fast as I could I ran towards her, the woman I loved so much. The closer I got the more horrified I became. There was blood all over her, her face was skinned and blood dripped down her face. Please, Veri, you can't do this to me you have to be okay. When I was close enough I scooped her up in my arms holding her tight. Her wonderful green eyes didn't seem to comprehend what was going on around her. Come on Veri, it's me, you're safe now. Her eyes finally focused and she smiled weakly up at me which just tore at my heart. Her eyes had such an acceptance in them, I realized right then that she was slipping away from me. Veri, you can't leave me, you have to hang on. Please keep those beautifully mysterious green eyes open for me. She reached up with her uninjured hand and cupped my face. Her touch was all I ever wanted most days but right now it wasn't enough, I needed her to yell at me for something or to laugh and blush. I needed her to be okay.

"I..." Her voice cracked and was so weak I had to listen so close and ignore all the other noises around me. Come on Veri I know you can pull through this. "Love..." No, Veri don't say it, the one thing I've wanted to hear you say please don't say it now because if you say it now that means you think you're dying. Veri, I love you so much, I can't live without you anymore. Tears started to threaten to pour out of my eyes. I can't cry I'm a knight but Veri you're dying. Please don't die. Her body was so motionless. "You..." She finally managed to say her energy so obviously sapped now. My tears freely flowed now. Her eyes began to flicker closed. No! Veri, keep your eyes open. Don't you dare leave me!

"Veri, you can't die. Don't you dare." I yelled at her body her eyes gave no sign of understanding me. Please just keep your beautiful eyes open, your eyes that would look at me so lovingly after I kissed you. But she didn't listen to me and her eyes closed. Her hand fell from my face completely limp. My tears poured out more quickly. Repositioning my hand I held her head and brought it up close to my chest holding her limp body tightly. I rested my cheek on the top of her head letting her hair soak in my tears. You weren't allowed to leave me. Please come back. A hand on my shoulder interrupted my plea to God to give her back to me but I chose to ignore the hand.

"Sean, we need to bring her back to the mansion." Brent told me sadness evident in his voice. Unceremoniously I wiped the tears from my face smearing blood everywhere.

"I'll carry her back." I managed to say and Brent nodded in understanding. Moving my hand from her head I wrapped my arms around her in a way that it was easy to carry her body that for the first time seemed so fragile to me. Her strong body that I thought could endure anything now seemed to be made of glass in my arms. Soldiers moved out of my way as I walked past carrying the bravest of them all. Justin suddenly ran up to me with Veri's sword in his hand.

"I found this. I will bring it to the mansion for you." He told me and then ran ahead of me. I couldn't even tell if she was breathing, if the body in my hands was still alive. Veri, you have to be alive. Something inside me suspected that she was gone. Something told me that I had lost the only thing that matters to me. And my heart broke at the thought and I didn't know if I had the strength to keep walking but I had to just in case, in case she was still alive and God answered my prayers.
