I stepped out of the car and Brian stepped out to. "Bye, Brian," I said, kissing him in the cheek.
"See you, Sarah," he smiled, kissing my lips. He turned away and started walking back to his house, leaving me standing in the night, in my driveway, my heart fluttering like mad. Brian made me feel different than Gray did. Brian made me feel special. Like I wasn't just some girl with a boyfriend, like I was Sarah who was falling for Brian in my own way. I walked up the driveway and to my front door. I slowly opened the door and walked inside, seeing mom sitting on the couch watching some television.
"Hi mom," I smiled, hanging up my keys.
"Hi, Sarah. Dinner is on the stove," she said, smiling at me.
"Thanks." I walked over to the stove and saw a pot of fettuccine alfredo. I smiled and grabbed a plate and a fork and pulled the fettuccine on my plate. I sat down at the table and ate my noodles. After I was done, I washed off my plate and placed it in the dishwasher. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and sat on the couch with my mom. I pulled up our group chat on my phone and started typing. "Do you guys want to meet up at 8 outside of the forest then start the search?" I pressed send and put my phone down on the coffee table.
"So, how's it going with Brian?" Mom asked.
"Good," I answered.
"How's it going with Kayla," she asked.
"Good," I answered.
"How are you?"
"Good."
"Can you please say something other than good?" Mom exclaimed.
"Yes," I replied with a smirk.
"That doesn't count. Now, how is the search going?" Mom asked.
"Great," I replied with a smile, "We found another clue. Kayla's shoes. Inside one of the shoes is a message of where Kayla is we think. We just have to find a gray building on the beach."
"Thank you for saying something other than good," mom smiled. I saw my phone had a new message so I picked it up and looked at it. "Sure." From Lilith. I replied with a smiley face and sighed. I looked at the television and started watching it.
Soon, a few hours passed and it was 10. I said good night to my mom and headed to my room. I collapsed on my bed after putting on my pajamas and tried to go to sleep, but I couldn't. I twisted and turned in different directions, but I just couldn't fall asleep. I glanced at my phone to check the time. 10:30. I groaned and laid on my back. I stared up at my ceiling and started to think.
What did Brian mean by I wasn't really safe? What did he mine by if only you knew? What did Brian mean? I had a gut feeling that he was part of this whole Kayla problem, but how? How was he important? I let my mind sit on those questions before I decided to check the time again. Apparently I had been thinking for a long time, because it was now 1:27. I sighed and tried to fall asleep again, this time successful.
