Springtime on the Upper East Side where the winter chill is supposed to be so last season. But when mittens and scarves are still all the rage the best thing you can do is just button up and hope for warmer days.
"Rewind. Why are you avoiding Nate? Didn't you just make up?". Carrington questioned as she walked down the street alongside her boyfriend and best friend. "Maybe a little too much." Theo teased as he nudged the heiress with his elbow. Letting out an exaggerated sigh Ophelia caved to her best friend's words without much effort. "Nate and I know it won't work out okay? We've tried way too many times and each time he just finds a new way to hurt me."
"Speak of the devil." Carrington nodded her head forward as the trio began approaching the boy in question in a rather heated conversation with his cousin. "Of course." Ophelia muttered under her breath before plastering a smile on her face and straightening her posture. "Lia, you remember Tripp right?". Nate welcomed with an enthusiastic grin, gently resting his hand on the heiress' back as he introduced the older boy to Ophelia's friends. "Vividly." The Waldorf-Huntington groaned, remembering back a few Thanksgivings when she was rather intoxicated and kissed him in a bar.
Tripp's face flushed red as he looked on at the ravenette beside Nate. "I'm trying to convince Nate here to make an appearance at the family hoodoo this weekend. Lunch today, cocktail party tomorrow. Hey, Maureen will be there. We're engaged now." "I didn't know that. That's fantastic." Nate beamed at the mention of the upcoming nuptials as Ophelia passed on her congratulations. "Yeah, well, you missed a lot." Tripp spoke rather insensitively as though the Captain's fraud and financial issues were Nate's fault.
Realizing he messed up the older boy offered a small smile before continuing on. "Hey, why don't you drop by? Grandfather would love to see you too." Tripp encouraged but his words seemed to fall on deaf ears as Nate took a moment in his mind before turning down the offer. "No, look, I appreciate it, Tripp. I do. There's just a lot of stuff going on." "Okay, I can take a hint. Call me if you change your mind." Tripp accepted before shaking hands with his cousin out of respect. "I will. I will. Congratulations." Nate spoke honestly, one arm still around Ophelia's waist as he said goodbye to his cousin. "Thanks, man."
"It was nice meeting you." Tripp spoke towards Carrington and Theodore who had remained quiet during the short exchange, instead they watched closely at the discomfort their friend was displaying. "Yeah, nice to meet you." Theodore spoke for the both of them before Tripp walked off and into his limo, leaving the teens to themselves once more. "You're gonna skip your family reunion?". Carrington questioned, knowing the boy's complicated family history but still wondering why Nate wouldn't want to attend.
"I'm not gonna go pretend to bond with the people who shut me and my mom out when Dad got busted. Why don't you come inside? The game's starting." Nate encouraged, leading the trio inside his house before any of them could say no or make an excuse.
