“This is pure gold!” exclaimed Ruby. She was the main editor of ‘The Blue and White’. It was our school colors as well as the name of our school paper.
Ruby held the freshly printed paper that I had just handed to her. It was the entry for next week’s ‘Dear Anna’. No one knew I was the person behind ‘Dear Anna’ besides Ruby and the other people in the group, but they had to swear they wouldn’t tell a soul.
Besides, who would take love advice a girl who was lacking of a love life to begin with?
“Dear ‘Boy Crazed Girl’,” Ruby read, “no worries. Just close your eyes and imagine the guys with you. Whoever seems the most realistic is your guy. Don’t fret, everyone has confusing boy moments where they are indecisive. Just take a deep breath and choose. Best of luck, Anna.”
“Where do you come up with this crap?” asked Arthur. He was the sport’s columnist.
I shrugged. “It comes naturally to me. And it isn’t crap. Love is not crap.”
He rolled his eyes.
“Good job, Locklyn,” Ruby said, glaring at Arthur. “As always.”
I smiled and walked back to my desk. Rhiannon leaned over her desk and over on mine.
“Mind helping me with a problem of my own?” she asked.
I sighed. “You know the rules, Rhiannon. If you want me to help, you have to write in an anonymous letter.”
She rolled her eyes. “But why do I have to go through all that trouble?”
“It’s the rules.”
“Okay guys, it’s a wrap,” Ruby said. “Have a nice weekend!”
I looked at the clock that hung on the wall. It was already 6 and I had been here since school ended about 3 hours ago.
I grabbed my things and headed out to my car. It wasn’t anything flashy, but it got the job done, which was more than enough for me.
I arrived home shortly. The school was only about 10 minutes from my house after all.
When I got out of the car, I realized that Jake was standing out in his front yard mowing the lawn. When he saw me, he stopped and gave me a wave. I smiled timidly, quickly rushing into the house.
For years, I’ve crushed on Jake Richmond. He was always the hot, older boy next door.
Even though I’m a senior and Jake is only a freshman in college, making us a year apart, he always seemed like a different universe away from me.
“Locklyn, is that you?” my mom called. She walked down the stairs, all dressed up in a simple black dress and wearing her expensive pearls.
“Um, what are you up to?” I asked.
“Your father and I are going to have a little Friday date night,” she said, looking flustered.
I nodded, smiling, and wishing them a good time. I went to my room and threw my stuff to the corner of the room.
My parents were very much in love. My parents were still quite young for having a 17-year-old. My mom is 36 while my dad is 37. They both had me fresh out of high school. That, however, didn’t harm their relationship in anyway, and instead strengthened it.
I took a peak out my window to catch a glimpse of Jake. Only when I looked, he had his shirt off, sweat glistened on his skin, giving me a mini heart attack.
I felt slightly stalker-like and turned away from the window hastily and busied myself with today’s homework.
Will I ever have the nerve to talk to him? Or will I forever have to stalk him out of my bedroom window?
