GOOSEBUMPS RAISED ON Alex's arm as the memories from yesterday slowly rise back up to the surface. Her lips tingled, reeling the ghost of Marcus's lips. She resisted the urge to touch her lips and looked over to Eliza, who shimmied on pair of jorts.

"Ew," Alex grimaced at her sisters fashion sense. She always paired the oddest things up. She put on a bright orange crop top and looked down at her little sister.

"Why aren't you getting ready?" Eliza asked as Ginny bursted into the room.

"Have you seen my checkered top?" Ginny quizzed before taking it upon herself to rummage through Alex's drawers. She plucked the top from the second drawer. "Hurry up, or I'm leaving you."

That was directed to Alex, who was still sprawled out in bed.

The girl slipped out of the covers and onto the floor dramatically when she spotted Eliza's phone. She snatched it up and had the plan to scroll on Tiktok, but she stopped in her tracks when she seen a selfie of her and Max as her lockscreen.

"I didn't realize you and Max were close," Alex said as she turned the lockscreen to her sister.

"Oh, yeah. She's my... buddy," Eliza told Alex in an awkward tone. The girl raised her eyebrows and decided to just drop it.

She threw on sweats and a baggy top since Ginny was in a rush to get out of the door. It's not like school was a beauty contest. Alex didn't care what anyone thought because the one person she cared about would never judge her for wearing sweats.

Walking into school was just as terrible as usual.

Eyes glued to Ginny and Alex. Eliza usually came out unscathed because she wasn't as known in school which was how she preferred it.

Ginny shared a quick look with Alex as they parted ways.

This was becoming normal for the girls. Prying eyes everywhere, the judgement was almost tangible. A lump began to form in Alex's throat as she reached her locker. A sort of anxious feeling overcame her as her surroundings blurred around the edges.

She went to fidget with her lock, but her palms were too sweaty.

Her heart began to race, dropping her phone from her left hand. A curse left her mouth as she crouched down to grab it. Her fingers grazed someone else's.

Alex looked up and locked eyes with Marcus. This was not how she wanted to see him again. She was a wreck and he stared at her worriedly. He could see through her, noticing the sweat beading on her forehead.

"Al, what's wrong?" Marcus asked.

This wasn't fair to him. They were hardly talking again and here she was hyperventilating in the middle of the hallway like an idiot.

The girl couldn't respond. She wasn't sure if it was embarrassment or the feeling of someone sitting on her chest making her forget how to use her voice.
