The next morning after breakfast, Amy went up to her room to get dressed. She pulled her black sleeveless blouse over her white tank top and snapped her blue hair into place.
There was a knock on Amy's bedroom door. "Come on sis, hurry up!" David called through Amy's door. "It's a days' journey to Sandgem Town and we need to get going."
Amy looked towards the door and rolled her eyes. "Don't rush me! I'm almost done!"
She packed her journal into her bag, which was the last thing she needed to pack. She set her hat on top of her head and slung her backpack over her back. Amy put her boots on and looked herself over in her mirror.
Everything was in place.
Before she left her room, Amy touched a photo on her desk. It was a photo of Mr. Baker, Amy's dad.
'Wish me luck dad,' Amy thought.
Twenty minutes later, Amy and David were in front of the Russell's. They didn't have to wait long before Melanie came out of her house.
"Hey Amy, hey David," Melanie greeted them. Amy had called earlier to let her know that David was going to Sandgem town with them.
"Hey Mel," said Amy. "Where's Barry?"
"He got tired of waiting; what else is new?" said Melanie, annoyed with her brother. "He's already left for Sandgem Town. You know plenty well Barry hates having to wait."
Amy sighed. "I really hoped he would have waited for once. It would have been nice for all of us to go together."
Melanie shrugged. "Oh well, don't worry about it. Barry promised that, no matter what, he'd wait for us there before going to that lab."
"He'd better."
"Let's get going, you two," said David impatiently.
"Look, there's a Bidoof!" cried Melanie.
"And there's a Shinx!" exclaimed Amy. "Oh, it is soooooo adorable!"
Amy, Melanie, and David were walking along the Route 201 path. So far, they had seen, not including the Bidoof and Shinx just now, a whole flock of Starly in the sky, four Burmy hanging from a branch of a tree, five other Bidoof, two Kricketot, a Budew, and seven Buneary.
"I can't wait to get some Poké Balls so I can start capturing these Pokemon," said Melanie, her eyes shining with excitement.
"Ditto," said Amy.
Amy and Melanie both giggled. 'Ditto' was both a word and a Pokémon. They both knew which one Amy meant, but they sometimes liked to pretend that she meant the other.
David rolled his eyes and mumbled something that sounded oddly like 'Girls'. Amy decided to ignore this.
"How much longer is it to Sandgem Town, David?" Amy asked.
Amy, Melanie, and David had been walking for over six hours now. They had already stopped for lunch an hour and a half ago.
"As I said at home: It's at least a days' journey to get to Sandgem Town," David said impatiently. "Not to mention there are an additional five hours, making it about a day and a half."
"Ugh, we'll never get there!" Amy moaned.
"We could run towards the town right now," Melanie suggested. "It's already been about half a day."
"Yeah! Great idea, Mel," Amy said. She and Melanie started to run to get to Sandgem Town faster.
"Hey! You can't leave me behind!" David shouted, running after them.
