How would you feel if you woke up one day and couldn't remember anything? Your name, your birthday, anything and everything important in your life.

Would you feel scared? Nervous? Confused?

I went through all three. And now I'm starting the cycle of feelings all over again.

August 21, 2014 -
First day with no memory.

I woke with a start, not knowing where I was.

I looked around the light purple room I had been sleeping in. My head was pounding.

Where was I and why did my head hurt?

"Honey, are you up yet?" A woman asked as she walked in the room.

I cowered in the back of the bed I was in. "W-who are you?" I questioned.

The woman looked at me in confusion. Crossing the room in a few long strides, she was beside me in seconds.

"What are you talking about, Melanie?"

"Who's Melanie?"

I could tell the woman was getting worried. She layed a hand on my forehead.

"Why don't you stay here. I'll go get some Advil."

She walked out the room, leaving me completely bewildered.

The woman didn't look familiar, but then again neither did the room.

My thoughts were cut off as a man came in to the room with the woman from before behind him.

"Mel?"

I was getting frustrated. "Who is Mel? Or Melanie? And who are you? Why am I here right now?" I exclaimed. "Actually I don't even know where 'here' is!"

The man and woman shared a look. Then the woman spoke up.

"Mel--you are Melanie. We're your parents. And this is your room. That you've had since you were five years old."

I shook my head. "No. No that's not right. I would remember if you were my parents. If this was my room. And I don't remember any of this."

The woman that said she was my mother's hand went up to her mouth. Tears trickled down her face.

"I-I'll go call the doctor," the man said. His voice cracked at the end and he made his way out of the bright room. My room, supposedly.

I slowly stood up. "Look...I don't know if you really are my mom or not, but I'm very confused. And my head hurts really bad, so do you have that medicine?"

The woman let out a shaky breath. "Yeah. Follow me."

I started to follow her out of the room, but stopped by the mirror on the dresser.

I honestly didn't remember what I looked like.

I had long, wavy red hair and bright green eyes---exactly like the woman's.

I was wearing a pair of pajama shorts and an oversized sweatshirt that looked like a guy's.

"Mel?" The woman was waiting on me by the door.

"Sorry," I murmured, and followed her to the hallway.

There was a door right across the hall that was identical to the one I'd come out of, and down the left side of the hall was another door.

I could see a set of stairs to the right and followed the woman. About halfway down the hall, I stopped yet again. The woman stopped and waited beside me, letting me survey the pictures on the wall.

I was in every single one.

Most looked like vacation pictures with a family. My family.

One of them was of me and a boy who looked like a younger version of the man from earlier. I was on his back, and we looked like we were having a lot of fun.

"Who is that?" I asked, already knowing the answer. I turned to look at the woman. Mom.

She swallowed before saying, "Liam. Your older brother." She broke off with a sob.

I stood in an awkward silence for a little bit before she contained her emotions. "Melanie, I'm not saying I think you're lying. Definitely not because you've always sucked at lying, quite frankly. But...do you really not remember any of this? Any of us?"

I shook my head. "No. I woke up this morning and wasn't sure where I was. Do you have any idea how this happened?"

My mom hesitated. "You came home from practice in a bit of a daze, but we just thought you had a rough night. Nothing happened in your sleep because Liam would've heard you across the hall."

"Where is he? Liam, I mean."

"He had practice this morning." At my questioning face, she said, "Soccer. He's played soccer since he was four. You play, too. Since you were three. That's where you were last night."

"How old am---" My question was cut short by an intense pain in my head.

"Ow!" I shouted as my hands went to my head. "Oh my gosh. Ow. Ow. Ow."

"Melanie? Melanie what's the matter?" My mother asked frantically.

"Ohhh!" I cried as I slid down the wall.

"Melanie!" I heard my mom yell.

"Make it stop! Make the pain stop!" I screamed as my eyes closed involuntarily.

"Dean! Call 911!" Was the last thing I heard before my world went black, and I lost complete consciousness.
