THE COURT MANDATED that Paul had custody of both Eliza and Alex, but the sole reason was because he was the mayor. He was the reasonable choice. To some. Life only got better as the sun warmed her skin and she attempted to push forward despite her urge to be there for her grandmother.
She held a plastic water gun in her fingers, eyeing Eliza for the go. Her sister gave her the nod and the girls ran forward to spray whoever they could.
Ginny squealed as they ambushed her sending Georgia and Austin out of the woodworks.
Alex couldn't help but laugh as they water soaked her clothes. She didn't care as long as she was having fun. Things this reminded her that things would be okay. They gave her hope.
She wondered how Marcus was. He was completely wasted last night and he was restless when she dropped him off, pacing.
Alex couldn't help but let her mind wander. He was what her thoughts gravitated to. She just wanted the best for him.

ALEX LEANED AGAINST the wall when Marcus joined her. She sighed and looked up to him. He looked so deflated yet he seemed like he was trying to make an effort. The girls felt bad for a moment, his face looked so utterly drained.
"Gitten was the one that practically castrated you in ninth grade for using the wrong 'your' right?" Marcus asked before taking a swig from his bottle.
"No, it was Miss Rupert. In my defense, in the context, I used it right. She's just bitter. Gitten is the racist piece of shit Max and Ginny have for AP English," Alex replied before furrowing her eyebrows. Why would he even bring that up? "Why? Did he say something to you?"
Marcus pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head. "No, uh... I have class, so..."
"We're heading to the same place, I'll just—" Alexandria began only to be shut down by Marcus.
"I actually need to- uh, do something so. I'll meet you there," Marcus seemed antsy as he talked to her. She didn't understand why he was being so flaky all of a sudden, but there was no way to get through to him when he's like this.
Alex sighed and made her way to the library to turn in a book. One she didn't even read, she just got it because she'd been there with Ginny who had three piled in her arms.
After her quick trip, she slipped into class before the bell.
Marcus had already been there making her stomach turn when she noticed his head resting against the desk. She took her seat and looked over at him when Abby leaned down to whisper in his ear.
