01. How Everything Changed

"Mommy!" Rin called as she ran over to her mother. "When's Daddy coming home? You said he'd be here!"

Her mother laughed. "He'll be here soon, you have to be patient."

"But I wanna play with Daddy! It's been so long since he left..." She pouted.

"I know, but he said he'd be here soon. Now turn around."

Rin smiled and did as she asked, turning her back to her. Her mother got down on her knees and started combing through Rin's hair with her fingers before pulling it up, tying her crimson red hair into a high ponytail with a royal blue ribbon. When she was finished, she turned around, her bangs framing her small little face. Her mother smiled at the little redhead, gently fixing her bangs before she stood up, holding her hand out to Rin.

"Come on, we'll go play outside until your father comes home."

"Okay!" She cheered as she took her hand, the two of them going outside.

Rin and her mother played outside for quite a while and her father still wasn't home. They eventually went inside as Rin was helping her mother make something. But suddenly, the sound of the front door opening and slamming shut caught their attention. Rin hopped down from the step stool she was on as her father came into the kitchen. "Daddy!" She cheered.

"Hikari!" Rin's father ignored her and went over to her mother.

"Satoshi, what's the matter?"

"Take Rin and get out of here now." He said.

"What? I don't under--"

"I don't have time to explain. Just take Rin and get out of here now!"

"Satoshi, what happened?"

"I can't explain! Just go now!" Rin watched as her father quickly kissed her mother, making the little red headed girl clap happily.

"Daddy kissed Mommy~!" She sang.

Suddenly, Rin's father got to her level as she could see he was in some sort of panic, but was too young to understand at the time what it meant. "Rin, sweetie? You know you're my favorite girl, right?"

"I thought Mommy was?" She said, pointing to her mother.

He chuckled lightly, but it was fake, that much she knew. "I meant you're my favorite daughter."

"Oh, yup! That's me!"

"Okay. I need you to go with your mother, okay?"

"Why? What's wrong?"

"Um...I'll be with you as soon as I can, okay, but you have to go now. I love you."

"I love you too, Daddy." She said before he kissed her forehead.

He then stood up and kissed her mother one last time. "Now go!"

"Come on, Rin." Her mother grabbed her hand and lead her to the back door, but as soon as they opened it, two men, so to speak, were in front of them. Hikari gasped, pushing Rin behind her as she held her hand tightly, glaring as there were two men by her father, one by himself.
