"You have seventeen pairs of sunglasses why?" V asked, picking up a pair of Butch's newest Bently sunglasses. The cop walked out of his closet, dressed in perfectly ironed blue jeans and a button up that wasn't buttoned up.

"It's about style, not function. Something you know little to noth-"

A feminine scream from the living room interrupted them.

Jane.

Vishous dropped the sunglasses and spun on his heel, shooting out of the bedroom and down the hall at a dead run, Butch on his heels. A chorus of screams echoed through the pit, causing panic to rise up in Vishous's throat and Butch growled behind him. He drew his gun from where it was hidden at the small of his back. He skidded to a halt, his gun extended in front of him he took in the situation. Butch was right behind him,

Jane was crouching on the counter across the room and Marrissa was perched on the top of the couch. She leapt the rest of the way over the thing and hightailed it for the table, scooting onto the polished cherry wood and folding up her legs to her chest.

"The coffee table, V! Kill it!" Jane squeaked.

V slowly lowered his gun slowly and stalked over to the coffee table and looked down. A grey spider the size of a silver dollar was loitering innocently on Jane's most recent copy of The New England Journal of Medicine.

Butch came up behind him.

"It's HUGE! Butch please!" Marissa whined from the table.

Butch looked over at her and raised an eyebrow. "I'll show you huge-"

"Kill it NOW!"

It started to scurry a cross the table so V bent down and put his hand in front of the things path. Naturally it crawled into his palm. He raised it up to eye level, tucking his gun back into place.

"Poor guy's just looking for a snack. It'd be kind of rude to just kill it."

"Oh for the love- V seriously. It's a mutant! Look at the size of the thing. It's a LESSER spider!" Jane yelled impatiently from the counter.

V smirked, and took a few steps toward her. "Look at his little fuzzy back though. It's like a dog with extra legs!"

"Don't you come near me with that thing!"

V ignored her protest and started toward her. She squealed and spun on the counter laughing, the momentum taking her purposefully off the other side of the island toward the table where Marissa sat. They both shrieked as V got slowly closer.

"But he's so cute!" He exclaimed, a smile on his face as he teased his female. He extended his open hand toward them.

"Wait! Where did it go?!" Marissa shouted, pointing towards Vs open and now empty hand.

V stopped in his tracks and looked down at the floor. Did he drop the damn thing?

He felt a tingle on the back of his neck.

"Oh fuck!" In one swift movement V reached up and swatted at his neck.

"Your shoulder!!" Marissa yelled, she and Jane were holding each other laughing by now.

V turned his head, and sure enough there it was, inches from his face. He yelled, ripped off his shirt and stomped on the thing like it was on fire. Damn bugs...

Once he was sure the thing was dead he stopped. And looked up. Jane and Marissa were both sitting on the table, their arms linked and faces red and shrieking in laughter. As silly as he felt, he couldn't help but smile at the look on his woman's face.

"Vishous. Would you like to tell your audience about your close encounter with death?"

V whirled around. Butch was standing behind him holding his phone up obviously video recording everything.

V didn't hesitate, and neither did Butch. The two took off in a chase, out of the pit, down the long hall and through to the main house. V finally tackled Butch at the bottom of the stairs in the foyer. The thud of their bodies hitting the floor reverberated through the house and rattled the chandelier.

"Give me the phone and I'll let you live!" V threatened as they wrestled on the floor.

Thorment appeared at the top of the stairs. "What the- oh. It's just V and Butch again."

"Thorment! Go long!" The cop shouted from underneath Vs hold. Somehow he managed to free his hand and chuck the phone without V getting a hold of it. The thing sailed up and over the railing, and somewhere Thorment shouted that he'd caught the thing.

By this time, nearly everyone in the house was gathered either in the foyer or at the top of the stairs. Jane and Marrissa made it to the impromptu party, nearly falling over from laughter on the way.

Vishous tried to get up, tried to follow the phone, but Butch had him pinned. From where they were wrestling on the floor they could hear the phone replaying Vishous' high pitched scream and the roar of laughter of his brothers and their shellans.

V relaxed under Butch's hold and he rolled off him, both laughing so hard their sides were splitting and faces red. It felt good. Had Vishous ever laughed this hard in his life? He couldn't remember another moment like this: a moment of normalcy and hilarity that he enjoyed to his core. As he looked up from the floor at his family laughing with him he couldn't help but love his life exactly as it was at this moment.
