Shadow

How you met: A few months ago you were diagnosed with leukemia. You were just starting chemotherapy therapy today, when a guy your age sat beside you waiting for his treatment. You turned to smile at him and he returned it back. You looked back up when you nurse came back into the room to bring you back to start your treatment. She had noticed you smiling t the guy beside you, so she decided to introduce the two of you.

"Nikkie this is Shadow," she gestured from you to him, "Shadow this is Nikkie," she gestured from him to you. "Now Shadow you take good care of Nikkie she's new here. That means no races in the hall okay?" She grinned at him and turns away motioning for you to come back with her.

The story: "Hey Nikkie," Shadow said while giving you a small shy smile.

"Hey," you said smiling back at him and blushing slightly.

"So you a newbie eh?" he asked trying to make light conversation.

"Yeah looks like it I guess," you replied shyly.

"Well you'll get used to it. The nurses here are fantastic. They'll take great care of you," he says looking at the wall in front of him. You watch him then ask,

"Do you mind me asking. What's wrong with you? Not in the bad way but treatment wise..." you turned and quickly say "sorry I know it's none of my business. I shouldn't have asked. " You know you shouldn't have said that it was to personal and you barely even know the guy.

"Its okay. You can ask. I have leukemia, and you?"

"Same," you replied looking around the room at all the patients there. You see several people of all different ages. Shadow observed you looking around and leaned over and whispers to you,

"That guy over there," he days pointing to a guy who looked like he was in his mid forties "I call him constant wedgie," you let out a little giggle,

"why?"

"Because every time I see him, he's pulling his jocks out of his butt like he's got a wedgie," he says laughing. You just couldn't help it and you started laughing as well. Shadow starts pointing at random people telling you the nickname he's given them. Before you knee it your guys treatment was over for the day and you had to go home.

"I had fun today Nikkie," Shadow said standing up.

"I did to. Thanks Shadow,

"Anytime. I'll catch ya sometime. Next time well have those races in the halls. " he says laughing. Over the coming months you see Shadow everytime you have chemotherapy. You two had become very close since that one fateful day.  Talking to each other about what your going through. Being there for each other while the other is sick. One day you see shadow and he looked worse than usual.

"Are you okay Shadow?" you ask as you help him to his chair.

"Yeah I'm just a little worse than usual that's all. No biggie." You let it go when your doctor comes into see you. He pulls you to the side and informs you that in a few more treatments you will probably be in remission. You run back to tell Shadow the good news when you notice that he isn't there anymore. You turn looking around for him. You had only been gone for a few minutes were could he have gone? The nurse noticed you looking for someone an figured it had to e Shadow you two are inseparable almost.
