Set My Heart on Fire

Charlie Weasley

Prologue

A cool breeze ruffled Charlie Weasley’s hair, now longer since he’d been able to escape his mothers nagging. Usually this would make him happy, but behind him lay the ruins of Hogwarts, and a heavy weight seemed to be anchoring his heart.

Digging his toe into the dirt, Charlie let out a long sigh. Somewhere inside the school his family was gathered, holding each other in a tight web of support. It was hard to think of his family at the moment, the wound his little brother’s death had left still fresh. Close by was his friend and partner, Greg; what was Charlie going to do without Greg?

He then thought of Ingrid, the dragon that thought of Greg as its parent. She wasn’t old, about forty years, and without him…it made Charlie’s heart ache. Greg had a family, a wife and kids who were still at Hogwarts-what would they do?

Charlie was struggling, trying to grasp the situation, get a handle on the feelings tumbling through him. War had never made sense to him, confused him and made him angry. He didn’t like being angry, or not understanding things.

The daisy he’d plucked from the ground was crushed in his fingers as he felt a sudden swoop of rage overcome him. How symbolic, the daisy…he had led to his Daisy being crushed, too…but Daisy had never been his. He’d never gotten the chance.

“Charlie?”

Twisting around, Charlie saw his only older sibling and best friend, Bill. A little ways off was Fleur, who gave Charlie a wave.

“Hey…you guys okay?”

Bill shrugged “Fleur and I are going to head home for a few hours, and I think everyone’s going to come back later for a dinner celebration…are you going to be there?”

Smiling sadly, Charlie shrugged “Mum would probably drag me in if I didn’t show up.”

“Charlie, I-” shaking his head, Bill stepped forward and hugged his brother tightly “I’m glad you’re okay, Lee.”

Charlie’s throat was tight, and he hugged Bill back; something made him not want to let go. “Me, too-I mean I-you know I couldn’t-I don’t know what-”

Chuckling, Bill pulled away “Its okay Charlie, I know what you mean.”

“I’m sorry.”

“You’ve never been much of a talker anyway,” said Bill “Are you going to go back inside? I think Mum’s going a bit mad, no one knew were you’d gone.”

Shuffling, Charlie shrugged again “Greg’s family is in there…so is Daisy’s…I don’t know.”

“You’ll be okay, Charlie.” Bill’s voice was gruff “We’ll all be okay.”

Charlie smiled at his brother, told him to go on; he’d go inside and see his parents and siblings. He’d be okay. Everything would be fine now.

But all Charlie really wanted was to go back to his dragons. Dragons didn’t know when you were responsible for getting someone killed, dragons didn’t judge. Dragons didn’t care, and Charlie wanted that. Just to forget, to be like a dragon and just live life in a simple, ongoing manner away from the rest of the world.

A/N: Some of you may remember this story...I took it down a while ago, but I'm bringing it back! But not yet, soon though. When I finish CMP. Which is fairly soon. Or I may change my mind.

Question: Would you prefer THIS or a Scorpius/Lily story that I sort of have an idea for...? Or both? I dunno.

Let me know!
