"Shit," I cry crossing another job off my list. This was the sixth one to turn me down without even looking at my curriculum vitae (CV). I know I don't have a shit load of experience but I desperately need a job. It's getting late and I need to get home before it's dark.
I look behind me to find a girl walking a few steps behind me. The same girl that had been walking behind me for the past half hour. I increase my pace slightly, wondering why the hell anyone would want to follow me; I'm broke as hell. There's literally nothing for her to take from me if she wants to rob me.
"Whoa!" A voice says and quickly yanks me back as I step into the busy road without looking.
A car honks at me angrily and I give a small wave as an apology even though I don't really mean it.
"Huh, that was a close one," The same voice says to herself.
"It's you!" I say when I finally turn around and realize the voice belongs to the girl that had been following me.
"It's me?" She says in a questioning voice.
"And me," A guy says standing behind the girl. I squint my eyes at him and realize that I'd also seen him an unnatural amount of times in the same day.
"What the-? Are you guys stalking me?" I ask biting my lip confused.
"Not so much stalking as trailing and plotting an approach," The girl answers hesitantly.
"Okay, well one, stalking and trailing? Practically the same thing, and two, plotting an approach? If you want to talk to me, talk to me. I don't bite," I reply slowly, talking to them as if they're stupid.
"Well shit, you're a smart one," The guy says and I can't tell whether he's being sarcastic or not.
"Well yeah, I graduated at 14 being smart is a given," I say and cross the road once it's clear.
"Pretty and smart? We've got ourselves a winner," I hear the guy say to the girl and that's when I stop and turn around.
"What are you guys going on about?" I ask them feeling very lost as to what they're talking about.
"We're models," The girl says and that's when I take the time to properly look at them.
They're both extremely gorgeous and tall, not as tall as me but still taller than most people their age. The girl has red hair, brown eyes and flawless pale skin while the guy has dark brown hair and a slight tan.
"As well as scouts," The guy inputs rocking back and forth.
"Scouts?" I ask, "As in..."
"We're hoping you'd be interested in modelling with our agency-,"
"Royalty," The guy interjects.
"I was getting there," She replies giving him a pointed look, "Sorry, this is our first time doing this, Royalty has never had scouts before but they wanted to try something new and well, we obviously aren't very good at this."
"Ah, you don't say," I retort and then hear my stomach grumble loudly.
"Wow," The guy says and holds my arm to steady me as I sway dizzily, "Are you okay?"
"Fine, but um let's just get to the point of this little chat," I say getting ready to walk away.
"Right, so tomorrow we have um auditions I guess to join our agency," The girl says smiling.
"It's actually called a casting but I guess it's the same thing really," The guy says giving the girl a side glance, "And basically they'll just ask you a couple of questions and take some photographs, it's easy stuff really."
I contemplate it for a second before agreeing, I need the money and modelling really won't hurt me.
"So if you could just make it to this address tomorrow at 12 and give your name to the receptionist you can, uh audition I guess," The girl says handing me a card with all the details on it.
"And tell them Roselyn and Jax sent you," The guy says finally unveiling their names.
I take a look at the address before replying, "I can't make it there sorry," I say giving them the card back and then start walking away.
"Wait!" Roselyn says and grabs my arm, "Why not?"
"This is on the other side of town, it'll take me hours to walk there and I don't have cab fare," I say and start walking again.
"How about you take this and then you won't have to worry about cab fare?" Jax says and hands me a note.
"You're giving me $200?" I exclaim with a shriek. Who gives away that kind of money?
"Well I guess if you need more then here's another $200," He says and hands me another note.
"You're giving me $400 for cab fare?" I ask baffled.
"Buy yourself I don't know, a pretty dress and... Wear flats, you're already too tall as it is," Jax says eying me up.
"Okay, okay I'll be there," I say and pull them both in for a quick hug. I haven't had this kind of money in ages. My dad isn't in the picture and my mom is depressed and doesn't have a job, to say we suffer with money is a major understatement.
"Okay? It's $400, you're acting like I just gave you the keys to, I don't know, a jet," Jax says looking confused.
"Sorry, I just... I needed some good news, it's been a while since anything good has happened to me," I say with a laugh.
"It's okay, we understand. Just be there tomorrow at 12 and tell them we sent you," Roselyn says with a small smile.
I nod in agreement and take the card back before making my way back home with a good feeling in my stomach.
This is really short, sorry! The other chapters are much longer (I've written the first ten already). So I know I probably shouldn't be posting another story seeing as I never actually land up finishing what I write but I started writing this one over a year ago and since I'm still so keen for it I decided I'd post it.
I wrote this when I was 14 and I'm too lazy to rewrite it so that's why it's so bad (in my opinion). The chapters do get better as the story progresses (I hope so). I plan to post a new chapter every week (probably on Wednesday's but it depends how I feel).
Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy it (please tell me what you think!)
