I Can See Monsters.

I hate supernatural creatures. They're everywhere and they're always trying to piss me off. Ghosts are the worst; always wanting help to move on and there are so many of them. Then there are the glamoured ones: Elves, dwarfs, trolls, ogres, fairies, and others that are weirder and somewhat uglier.

Then there are the ones that are really dangerous. Soul-sucking demons, monsters that really do hide under the bed, evil spirits bent on revenge, all things that are evil and old. Those are the things that I always end up having to deal with and it sucks. I'm a monster magnet and apparently so are all my loved ones. Do I attract people that attract evil? Yes, yes I do and then I have to help them with their problems. How can I not? I have the same problems. The only difference is that I know what those problems are.

I was staring into the eyes of a particularly nasty case of dark-pixies. They're like fleas, parasites; always biting things and taking bits of their life-force. They have a strong liking of children's life forces. Normal pixies don't like people but they're like wasps, don't bother them and they won't bother you. Dark-pixies only have one thought in their minds and that's to feed. All the time, everyday. They are often found in schools such like the one I was in. They like kindergarten classrooms and pre-schools but they're fine with a few grades above. They like to take from 'pure' souls.

The creatures that I can see can't tell that I can see them just by looking at me. It's only if I react to them. Which is why I was just kind of standing around looking bored. I was glad that most parasitic beings didn't like the taste of me. In fact they avoided me at all costs. Even the normal ones like ticks and leeches. I found it extremely convenient. I paled at the thought of something like that attaching to me. It made goosebumps appear on my arms.

Dark-pixies are hard to get rid of. It takes some knowledge of exorcisms and witchcraft. Both of which I have at least some of. I was definitely better at the first. I'd seen too many things go wrong with the latter to be comfortable with it. I knew exactly what to do, it was just a matter of doing it without being attacked by the small but deadly creatures that were running around being idiots.

I sighed quietly and sat down on the floor. I slowly relaxed until my legs were sprawled out before me and my arms were bearing my weight. It wouldn't take long and then I could go into my nice warm bed and sleep. Yes, that was my motivation for this unfortunate outing.

I had a small grenade-like object in my right, back pocket. It was to be used to force all the nasty creatures out of the elementary school. I'd worked on it before I'd gotten there and all I had to do was pull the pin. It shouldn't hurt me, it would just make the school smell horrible to the pixies. The children would be left alone for a few years after getting the scent on them, even if they couldn't smell it. I might get a big bruise on my butt but that was fine. Much better than being attacked by the little black humanoid beings.

I waited until they had started to wear themselves down. It didn't take long before their meals had left them and they were hungry again. That's when it was easiest. They were woozy and instinct driven. I did this weird stretch thing before reaching into my back pocket as if to grab something. Obviously I did, the minuscule pin. In seconds a milky gas was filling the air. The pixies stared at it in horror before the smart ones fled. The stupid ones started hissing at me, spitting their green saliva all over themselves. I just smiled sweetly at them as the gas took affect and they started choking for air. Several died right their and the others tried to flee but ended up collapsing.

I guess I should feel guilty but I really didn't. Even other dark creatures hated the pests. They would attack any creatures children, as long as the children had pure souls or if the dark-pixies were really hungry. I had even had this batch pointed out to me by a ghost. She was a child and had died in the school years ago. She had matured over her years of boredom and since she had died in a school she was whip smart. See, I wasn't heartless and she was a nice little girl. She even played with the children who still had the sight as their 'imaginary friend'.

The girl showed up a few seconds after all the pixies were dead or gone. Her hair was in pigtails and I guess at one time it was blond. Now she was mostly see through though her blue eyes shone just as any living persons. She was wearing a slightly muddy dress and her front teeth were missing. She had probably been about 7 when she died but acted as any pre-teen would and her intelligence went even higher than that. Not much to do when you're dead besides find a hobby or haunt people.

"So they're gone?" she asked. Her voice sounded angelic in pitch though its tone made her seem annoyed with the whole situation.

"Yeah, the dead ones will fade away in a few hours or a rat will eat them," I said with a smile. My butt really hurt, I should've brought my purse and put the grenade in their.

"Good, now get out," she said while glaring at me. See, not as sweet as she looked.

"Alright I'm going but remember, tell me if they come back. This is a new batch but once in a while they can build up an immunity to the stuff." I stood up slowly, stretching as I said it. Then I rubbed my sore butt. I wouldn't be able to sit right for a while. I looked out one of the windows at the night sky. It had been too easy to get into the school with the help of the girl. Security in American schools was horrible. I looked at one of the still pixies. It's skin looked like melted rubber and it wasn't really wearing anything to cover itself. It was about 5 inches tall, the average for all kinds of pixies. Though no pixies had dust to make you fly, I had always wished they did.

"I will. Thanks for not exorcising the whole place. I kind of live here."

"Your welcome. Anyway it would be hard to exorcise a ghost from the place they died. I could probably bind you to your death spot but you didn't die very violently so it would be difficult to find. Unless someone really powerful comes to an elementary school just to exorcise a child ghost who isn't bothering anyone you're safe." I started to walk away and gave her a fleeting smile. "Just don't draw too much attention to yourself. I'll see you around Sarah."

"Bye," she said quietly before dissipating into thin air. She probably hadn't had intelligent conversation in a year or so. The poor kid.

A/N

So this is just a first draft. I barely edited anything. Since this is just a first draft please tell me what you think and if you see any mistakes.  I want to know if I should continue or if it sucks. I know the way it's put together is a bit shaky and it doesn't really flow the way I want it to but I just want to see if I should go for this.

The main character is a girl. Her personality, or the jest of it, is as she is portrayed above. I haven't completely decided on what she looks like or her age or even her name but I didn't really think the first chapter needed all of that. Information about her will be given out slowly.

For those who don't know glamoured beings are those who disguise themselves, often to fit into the human world. Some have the ability to make it for themselves others have to buy trinkets that will do it for them.

I don't see elves as the ones Santa uses. I see them as tall, elegant creatures with slightly pointed ears and somewhat cat-like eyes. Please, I beg of you, if/when they come up in this story don't picture them like Santa's helpers.

Well I guess that's all I have to say. Thank you for reading and please tell me if you like it. I would really appreciate some criticism. Keep it constructive or at least polite please.
