Hey everyone, it's Mel.
Jay and I are planning out a story that takes place in a rehab center. We've actually been planning this story out for several months now, but we kept changing characters, plots, etc.
We've actually written out a first chapter of this story before, but after rereading it about a month or so later, we realized it wasn't as good as we thought and we wanted to change things. There used to be a third person in our group (who helped write that first chapter), but they're not in our squad anymore, so we took out that person's character. The character the third person created wasn't developed well and didn't fit the story. Basically, the character had no legit reason to be at the rehab and I bet there was no research done to make the character and the character's situation realistic. So, we got rid of that character and that character's storyline completely. None of that cringe could be salvaged. The story was already looking better with the changes we made thus far.
While planning out the rehab story, Jay and I thought it'd be awesome if we also wrote backstories for our characters so you guys know why they're in rehab and what their lives were like beforehand. I always find the past of a character interesting, so I'm really excited to write about their past. We're planning out our backstories as we plan out the rehab one where all the backstories will merge together.
Also, there's a character I made who is so precious and cute and sarcastic and I love her so much. As I was planning her backstory, I realized that I wanted her to have a different endgame and I didn't want her current path to lead her to rehab, so I took her out of the story and decided to write her in her own story with a different set of conflicts.
Jay also made a character who was adorable and sweet, but after further planning Jay came to the same conclusion as I did with mine - she was too precious and we didn't want our children to go to rehab.
So, after those character changes, there are two original characters left. Both of us agreed that those babes are perfect and we're keeping them forever.
The thing is, that the original story we had (the version where the ex-group member played a decently large role in writing it), we only had four main characters. Jay and I got rid of two characters, and made a few replacements, but decided they didn't really fit that well.
I created a new character, and also brought back an old character from an old group story Jay and I were writing together. But, even after getting four characters again, it felt so empty. Plots, minor conflicts, and other things that make stories fun and more interesting were really hard to think of. Now that the third member isn't around to tell us there's too many characters, Jay and I created a bunch of minor characters.
One of the minor characters is an overly religious child that the group hates. Conflicts between characters, especially among sassy and sarcastic people are really funny. So, we wanted to emphasize that in our story. The dynamic between the squad is so much fun to write, and there's good one liners creating fast paced and entertaining social situations.
Jay and I are really slow at doing the write smh but hopefully we'll post something soon for you guys. Thanks for reading.
