He has the path to his home memorized and as soon as Cameron is home he's bombarded by his family, they miss their charismatic son but they know it's necessary for him to train. It's not until later that he's able to look at his phone, he has a few text messages from Aaron.
From Aaron 🔥
I miss you already and you just left 5 minutes agoFrom Aaron 🔥
Ugh dinner was horrible without you 😩From Aaron🔥
Guess you're busy with your family, let me know what they say to me visiting for a weekend. We've been friends for years but I haven't ever actually met them.Cameron bites his lip as he looks at his phone, Aaron hasn't met his family because unless he's presenting him as his partner then he can't. His family is old-fashioned and extremely formal when it comes to things like that. He feels guilty for giving Aaron hope that he might be able to come over for a weekend, his parents will most assuredly say no. They want all of his effort and attention to go towards finding a partner, not entertaining a friend.
To Aaron🔥
I miss you too. I'll ask them tomorrow at breakfast and then I'll let you know. I'm hoping they say yes 🙏. I'm sorry about dinner, please let me know if Taylor is giving you a hard time. His finger hovers over the send button, he contemplates adding on the true reason for his visit home but he decides it's too soon to tell him. Maybe he'll tell him after he's found someone.
He sends the message and then gets ready for bed. When he's snug underneath his blankets his mind wanders as he thinks about who could be his partner.
He conjures up an ball of ice and uses his eyes to move it around his room. The stronger he becomes the more control he has over the elements, his weakest is air because he can't visualize how to control it. Fire came the easiest for him because he's naturally hot-headed.
His mind drifts through a lot of thoughts, he briefly contemplates actually dating Aaron. Aaron would make an excellent partner but there's no spark and Cameron can't imagine getting married to someone he's not attracted to.
He loses track of time and before he knows it the sun is rising and he hasn't slept at all.
He's not tired so he gets up and goes outside to their garden. His parents built their own fountain but this one is of tranquility. Cameron sits and closes his eyes, he tries to concentrate on visualizing air, he thinks about the wind and the sound that accompanies it. He pictures himself throwing a gust of wind at Taylor and he smiles as he finally finds something he can concentrate on.
When he opens his eyes he feels accomplished and proud of himself. Now he can work on strengthening that element.
"Cameron, breakfast is ready." His mother calls from the door, he stands and walks to the house.
When he enters the kitchen his parents and older sister Sierra are already sitting at the breakfast table.
"Can Aaron visit me during the weekend?" Cameron asks immediately, catching his parents off guard.
Gina glances at John who shakes his head.
"We want you to have no distractions, Cameron. We've given you ample time to find a partner and soon you will be approaching your 20th year. We expect that you'll work hard and find someone prior to your return to school," his father replies firmly and Cameron sighs because he knows there's no changing his mind.
Cameron rolls his eyes and concentrates on eating his food. His parents are so archaic in their traditions.
He leaves the house after breakfast and heads to his favorite spot growing up, there's a cliff that overlooks the Pacific Ocean and he always felt so calm whenever he went there. Maybe the cliff can provide him with some peace of mind like it always did.
He sits at the edge of the sharp cliff, people look at him strangely because it's a long descent onto the jagged rocks below but he ignores them. He stares at the water pensively for a long time, he gets lost in thoughts. He thinks about Aaron and his unrequited love, his parents and their strict rules, he even thinks about Taylor and how he abuses other students but somehow expects to get chosen as a hero. They're not expected to be perfect but there has to be a basic form of empathy there or else why would you feel inclined to save someone.
It's late into the afternoon when Cameron turns his head and his attention is caught right away by a boy who sits fairly close to the edge but not as close as Cameron. He has a canvas book on his lap and appears to be drawing. Cameron watches him as his hands move quickly over the page on his lap. Cameron chews on his bottom lip as he thinks about how to approach him. He's intrigued by the intensity with which the boy works.
His preference is for girls but he does find some guys attractive, like this boy who's hunched over and concentrating fully on his task.
Cameron stands and begins to walk towards the boy, the closer he gets, the more interested he is. The boy's complete attention is on the canvas on his lap, he doesn't pay attention to his surroundings at all. Cameron looks over his shoulder and he's amazed by how realistic his drawing looks, it's so detailed. The boy is very talented and that attracts him even more to Cameron.
Cameron waits patiently, not wanting to interrupt the boys inspiration, until the boy stops drawing and lets out a deep breath.
"That's magnificent," Cameron comments softly, he doesn't want to startle him because he doesn't want to make him jump and lose his beautiful drawing in the water below.
When the boy looks up at him, he's taken aback by the beautiful, vibrant blue eyes that meet his. Cameron is so taken in by this boy like he's never been before. He's never had such immediate attraction, such a visceral reaction to someone like he does with him.
The boys eyes flicker down to his work and he seems almost dismissive of the amazing drawing on his lap.
"It's horrible," he replies glumly and he rips the page off of the canvas and balls it up before throwing it into the ocean. Cameron almost wants to go after it, he can't believe that the boy just threw away his work of art like it was trash.
The boy stares at the blank page in front of him for a few moments, Cameron is trying to think of what to say to him. He doesn't want to mess it up because you only get one shot at a good first impression. He's never been so lost for words, he's usually confident and knows exactly what to say but this boy has him tongue tied.
The boy gets up and leaves without another word to Cameron. Cameron watches in shock because to be honest, people are usually tripping over themselves for his attention. The boy's abrupt departure doesn't make Cameron want to know him any less, he's determined to capture the boy's attention like he has captured his.
A/n- short as fuck but I want to update more tomorrow 😘
