I walk into my house and throw my backpack by the door and slide my Pink Converse All-Stars into the pile of sneakers. It's been a long day at school- and it's only Monday. Another two girls got their marks this weekend! That leaves only my best friend Katherine, me, and one other girl left. I huff and waddle into the kitchen, where my brother, Andy, and mother are. "I heard Alex get her mark today, is it finally only you left? Freak. What if you don't even have a soulmate?" Andy snickers, "Andy!" my mother chastises. I stifle a sob, grab a banana, and walk out the kitchen towards my room.
A few hours pass and I hear the door slam, sign that my father is home, "I'm home sugarpies! I brought y'all a pie!" he calls, I freeze. Katherine is on Skype with me, we were working on some history homework, "Did he just say..?" I nod in response. "Go! Go! I love you!" I look down and see tears escaping her eyes before shutting the lid and sprinting down the stairs. The house is silent except for the minute sobs escaping from my mom's lips. Andy sneaks down the stairs behind me and hugs me from behind, we all know what's happening. It seems like an eternity before my father collapses into the silence of the house, and nobody moves. We all know he's gone. My mother slowly lifts up her sleeve to expose her mark- it's missing.
None of us know what to do, my mom is the first one to move. "Lauren, please, call the neighbor, Mark, he may be able to help us" I nod and exit the room.
There was a quiet rapping on the door and Andy moved to open it, Mark took a slow step in and examined our situation. His eyes glanced around the room, sweeping over everything before finally coming to a rest on my father's dead body. "Is your mark gone?" he whispers towards my mom, she replied by nodding, "It looks like you chose the right man, then. I'm sorry for your loss. He loved you dearly".
AN: So I have this AMAZING idea for a book, but I don't know how to put it onto paper. Sorry if this book ends up sucking, but I'm really proud of the plot line
