Standing tall was the only thing she could do as she heard those words.

Choji had told her, the words barely escaping before he burst into tears.

It truly was a sad time for the friends Usagi had made. She couldn't comprehend how Choji had managed to get the words out to tell her in the first place. She couldn't help but wonder... how were his teammates?

Ino was at her house, sitting in her bedroom alone in mourning with the door locked, refusing to come out even if it meant she would starve.

Shikamaru was Kami knows where. He disappeared as soon as he foot out the Hokage's office.

So, in his mourning, Choji was a little lost. With Shikamaru gone, he sound out one of his closest childhood friends for comfort.

"Usagi..." Choji had turned up at the Hyuga complex where Usagi had been staying so she could avoid Kakashi. His expression was so lost. "Asuma was killed..."

Usagi had kicked Neji out of his own room after that, so that she and Choji could talk without interference.

"It's my room..." He muttered, pissed off, but understanding of the situation as he walked out.

Usagi would apologize later. Right now she needed to speak with Choji.

"What happened?" Usagi asked her friend. They hadn't spoken for a while, both being rather busy. She missed the good old academy days when it was her, Choji, and Shikamaru all hanging out without a worry in the world. How things had changed.

"First explain what happened to you..." Choji said. "You're all bruised..."

Still Usagi's skin was decorated with splotchy bruises, her muscles still so sore from the beatings. "... Long story. Let's just... talk about you."

Choji sighed, wiping away a tear that was threatening to fall from his eye. "There's not much to say. Asuma... he..."

And that's when the tears started.

It was heartbreaking. For Choji to lose his Sensei, the person he looked up to and aspired to be like. He was embarrassed he was crying, especially in front of a girl, but Usagi assured him it was alright. Friends were meant to support each other no matter what.

... Family too.

Usagi sighed as she comforted the distressed boy. She still hadn't spoken to Kakashi.
