The warm smell of hot-off-the-griddle pancakes filled my nose as I awoke from a deep sleep. I quickly hopped out of my small bed and slipped my pink bunny slippers on. I ran to through the narrow hallway and into the kitchen. A soft yet intense yellow light streamed through the windows.
"Mornin'." I greeted my family. I watched, taking my seat, as my older brother stuffed his face with the pancakes. I looked at my dad who was happily flipping pancakes over the stove.
"Mornin'" My dad said plopping some pancakes onto my plate. My brother looked at me and grunted a muffled 'morning' which was barely understandable due to his full mouth. I happily began to dig in to my stack of pancakes.
"The weather looks good for some sailing today. What do you think?" My dad began.
"Yah. We should so go sailing today." My brother said with his mouth full.
"How 'bout after breakfast?" My dad said taking his seat.
"Sounds good. I'll be right back and change." My brother said getting up and jogging up the stairs.
"Are you sure you don't want to go sailing Alex?" My dad questioned already knowing my answer. I felt heartbroken at how he looked at me. His eyes werer full of concern and I know how much he wanted me to forget all that happened in the past year. I mean, the incident completely changed me. I used to always go sailing and the ocean was my favorite. The event changed me so much that I've become a whole new person. I don't even know who I am anymore.
"Yeah, I'm sure. I have a lot of....um....homework and stuff to do. You guys go have fun." I said finishing up my pancakes. I quickly shot up out of my seat and darted up the stairs not wanting to see my Dad's sympathetic eyes.
