I haven't had the chance to sit down and write anything and I won't lie, haven't had the motivation, but I promised a part 2 to this story so that is exactly what you're getting. ~CONTEXT~

That night, you stayed by Austin's side constantly, never once taking your eyes off him; he was an absolute wreck, and all he needed was someone to be by his side to remind him that he wasn't alone and act as the constant he was desperately craving. It broke your heart to see him like that, sobbing his heart out over a woman who evidently didn't deserve him, and you felt so useless knowing that all you could do was hug him and be there for him when you wished you could solve the problem and take the pain away. 

Your own anger simmered beneath the surface the longer you held him, anger and hatred directed towards his ex-wife, despising her for doing this to him. She took him away from you, she ruined your relationship and caused you to lose the love of your life, and now he had done this to him. Of course you wanted to be there for him, you loved him and he needed you more than ever, but you'd be lying if you said you didn't want to hunt the bitch down. Never in your life have you hated someone so much, and never in your life have you wanted to scream at someone so much. But rather than letting your anger get the better of you, you remained by Austin's side and made it your mission to help him through this situation.

One of the things you offered to help him with was getting custody of his daughter; he would cry into your shoulder about how much he missed his little girl and how all he wanted to do was hold her and never let her go, so you knew she meant the world to him. Knowing this, you decided it would be your duty to help him get primary custody over her, and it didn't matter how hard his ex-wife made it, you would fight for him and fight for this little girl. It was a vow you took very seriously, and one that you acted on almost immediately. 

Having connections in life was always a good thing, more so now, and you were eternally grateful. A friend of yours is a lawyer, specifically working in family courts with cases of child support, parental rights and custody. You left Austin sleeping in the morning after in order to go and speak with this friend; explaining the situation and making it known that you wanted Austin to get primary custody of his daughter. Your friend being the amazing person that they are, obviously agreed to take the case and took their role as Austin's lawyer very seriously. 

It took a while for his ex-wife to cooperate and agree to go to court, but after she was threatened with having her daughter removed from her entirely she reluctantly agreed, and that was when the fight began. Months of long court appearances, Austin having to bring in documents and answer gruelling questions to prove he was a good father, the mother spewing bitter lies and utter bullshit to paint him in a bad light, all of it was incredibly exhausting and you were ready for it to be over. She wasn't making this fight easy, determined to get her way and make Austin suffer in never getting to see his little girl again. However, little was she aware that her plan wouldn't work the way she wanted it to.

~CURRENT~

Today is the day. Every court appearance, every bitter argument, every petty lie and every document provided was all coming to an end today. Custody arrangements are being finalised, and anxieties are high. Austin is panicking, genuinely terrified of losing his daughter, hands clammy and pacing back and forth outside the court room. Your sitting on a chair in the hall, leg bouncing and hands clasped tight, focusing your gaze on the floor in front of you. Neither of you are talking, both just as nervous for todays outcome as one another, practically holding your breath as you wait anxiously.
