The car ride was silent. Not an awkward silent though. Jane quickly parked the car in front of a antique familiar mansion, my house. Well mostly Nick's, but still, I couldn't help but smile and be thrilled with excitement.
I nearly ran to the door and rang on the bell impatiently. Jane playfully tapped on my hand, making a 'no-no' with his finger.
''Tuh-tuh-tuh little frosty! Be patient.'' I smiled at him genuinely and faced the person who opened the door.
Sadly enough, it wasn't my brother, but only a butler.
''Mr and Mrs Jane everybody'' he announced loudly.
My face became heated to the sudden choice of words. I looked at Jane and he shrugged his shoulders smiling.
''Glad to see some familiar faces'' someone said.
We turned around to see Lisbon. Jane and her started talking about a new case involving Red John. His name, suddenly, caught my attention, making me concentrate on what they were saying.
''Jane, there was note found in your previous house'' Lisbon said. Jane's smile immediately dropped.
''What kind of note what did it say? From Red John?'' This sudden revelation made me even more certain that the one I received was definitively from the same person who gave it to Jane.
''It said that he didn't like to get credit for work he didn't commit, wait...'' Lisbon searched through her purse and found a newspaper page, just like mine.
''It says: The work isn't mine. Getting credit for an amateur work, one that I do admire, is going to cost. At the weakest moment, I'll strike. Killing those who matter. The rest will align itself by an invitation. What does that even mean?'' Lisbon asked, putting back the newspaper in her purse.
I suddenly grabbed it from her and took a good look at it. There were the letters T and A underlined. I knew the message was destined for me. Red John is angry, because I blamed Charlotte's death on him. Now he wants revenge.
I gave it back to her.
''There's nothing else. The message was clearly written for you Jane'' I lied.
Jane looked at the newspaper and then at me and then back at the newspaper to only conclude:
''I know that, but I'm more worried about the killing those who matter part.'' His eyes locked onto mine and I understood. He was worried for me. My heart melted as I whispered a quick ''I'll be fine, I'm surrounded by security and Lisbon'' I winked at Lisbon as she laughed.
''Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go to the bathroom....Alone! Jane.'' I said when I saw him looking at me pleadingly. He raised his hands in defeat and let me walk past him and Lisbon.
I was now very worried. I splashed my face with water and tried to calm down. What did Red John mean killing those who matter ? I was certain it was going to be Jane as he's our only point in common. But a part of me believed something bigger was coming.
And it scared me. I've never been so scared in my entire life. I'd rather go back to jail right now, so much I'm scared.
I touched up my makeup and decided to find my brother. Nick had to be somewhere around, it's his party after all. I entered a few rooms upstairs, but he was nowhere to be found.
My guts told me there was something wrong. My impatience, to find him, grew more and more. My eyes started to tear up, fearing the worst. My feet were walking on their own, taking me towards a room in the back, isolated from the party downstairs. A very familiar room, my old room.
''Nick?'' I knocked hesitantly on the door. My eyes couldn't bare the tears anymore, and let them fall down my cheeks. I smelt the horrible odour of blood and dead body, and knew what fate was awaiting me.
I opened the door and what I saw made me cringe in pain. I ran to Nick's body, which was staked right through the heart. His face was peaceful and you could imagine him smiling. I ran my hand through his messy hair and exploded in tears, not holding back.
I took his hand in mine, but stopped crying when I felt something in it. It was an old picture of me when I got my braces off, showing off my teeth. Silent tears strolled down my face. I turned the picture around to see a message.
Told you. Complete your unaccomplished mission. Kill those who matter to him. The cause of your brother's death is downstairs amongst other, an amateur just like you. Find me if you can, I'll be waiting. The invitation is always open.
My body shook with rage. I tore the message up into tiny pieces. I closed Nick's eyes and was about to cover him with a blanket when Lisbon barged in. She looked at my teary face and then shifted her gaze to my dead brother's decapitated body. Her eyes filled with sadness as she pulled me into a tight embrace.
At that moment, all I could think about was the fact that Red John killed my brother because of my liaison with Patrick Jane. And I needed to hurt Patrick Jane. I took the knife out of Nick's chest, handling it carefully behind Lisbon's back.
''I'm so sorry Trish. We're going to find the one who did this to your brother.''
''No..I'm sorry that you're not going to live to see another day''
And with that said, I planted the knife through the back of Lisbon's neck. Choking her to death and watching her take sharp breaths until there was nothing to breath but darkness.
I installed her next to my brother on the bed, making sure no blood was touching me, washed the knife in the connected bathroom and put it back to it's place, while wearing plastic gloves I used to dye my hair with.
I dipped my plastic fingers into the pool of blood that was coming out of Lisbon's neck and drew on the wall, the signature of the one who killed my brother.
I took off the gloves, wrapped them into toilet paper and put them back into my purse. Taking one last look at the mirror, making sure no blood was visible through my cream dress, I left the room as silently as I came in.
Patrick Jane and Red John were going to pay for what they did to my brother.
