Author's Note:

This story is close to my heart because I've had this in my head (and in my heart) for the past 10 years. Over the years I've played around with the characters and plots but never really got around to write it down... until Wattpad came along and I found a place to share it. When the story is close to realit it makes it more difficult to write it down.

So, please bear with me. Updates may be a bit slow. I'm trying to make it funny and light, but with a touch of bittersweet.

Hope you enjoy reading about Lizzie and Christopher, as much I enjoy writing about them.

Six years ago...

"Lizzie, what do you think would happen if we hadn't moved to California?" Christopher asked me while we were sitting cross legged on the grass in their backyard.

"I dunno. Maybe we're still schoolmates? Maybe I'd have a reason to go to the prom coz I'd have a date!" I answered jokingly.

Christopher took my hand and stared into my eyes, "Yeah, I think so too. We'd probably be prom dates"...

Elizabeth's POV

"Ladies and gentlemen, we have reached our final decent..." the pilot's voice pulled me out of my reverie. I remembered our last conversation with Christopher. I wondered why I suddenly remembered THAT moment. I sighed and started fixing my chair and putting back my tray up.

Nervous. I was feeling nervous and I didn't know why. Was it because it has been six years since I saw Christopher?

Deep inside I knew why I was nervous. Because I wasn't the same Lizzie he left in Toronto fourteen years ago, I wasn't even the same Lizzie he met again six years ago.

As soon as the plane stopped, I unbuckled my seat belt and readied my backpack for deplaning. It took awhile to get out of the plane and half an hour in immigration. Once I was cleared, I walked straight to the carousel area to wait for my baggage.

"Lizzie! Elizabeth!" I heard someone call my name. I turned around looking for the person when I saw a lady by the exit frantically waving her hand in the air. "Lizzie! Here!"

"Aunt Cynthia!" I immediately ran to her and gave her a hug. "I'm finally here!"

"Yes you are! How was the flight? Are you hungry?"

"Cynthia, maybe we should get her bags first?" the man beside her interrupted.

"Uncle Winston?! Oh my gosh! It's so nice to see you!" He also gave me a big hug.

"Well, Lizzie, it's been awhile. You've certainly grown!" He looked me once over and gave me another hug. "Let's get your bag so we can go somewhere to continue the chit chat. What do you think?" He didn't wait for our answer and went straight to the carousel.

It took another fifteen minutes before my two bags came out. The whole time we were already trying to catch up on each other. Winston suggested to stop at In and Out for some burgers before heading home. "You can't go to California and not have In and Out girl!"

I giggled. I felt like a kid again. Cynthia and Winston Aldridge were my parents' best friends. They have been friends since college and ended up living beside each other when the two couples eventually married. As expected, the kids became best friends too. The Aldridge had two sons, the eldest was Christopher who was two years older than me, and Steve who was two years younger. Us three kids grew up constantly together and whenever either of the couples had to go somewhere for work, the other family took whoever was left behind.
