Bud

LIFE HAD BEEN unraveling by the seams. Between Georgia's trial and Alex's broken heart, she wasn't sure how much she could bear. There was too much for her to handle. She smoked a joint in the Miller's backyard as the rest of them sat in a courtroom. Her eyes were glossed over, her head empty as she stared at the grass.

The girl swallowed thickly. Her newest attempt at isolating herself had been working amazingly. Nobody seemed to bother her, Georgia stopped trying to give her advice, and averted their eyes. A small part of her felt disgusted for feeling this way over a boy, but this hadn't been any boy. Marcus was her boy.

Despite the fact that her whole being withdrawled from his presence, this was for the absolute. She'd been going down a bad path. All she needed was a few days to gather herself and then she'd be the same old Alexandria.

The girl didn't bother locking the door, knowing that everyone would be back eventually. Her world swirled around her in dull colors as she stood up. She'd been absolutely obliterated, her mind in the clouds, her body floating. This had been the only state she'd feel peace.

The sound of the wind rustling the leaves on the trees caused her to slightly sway. The small smile on her face grew wider as she made her way inside. She thought about sneaking away to visit her abuela later,  she'd feel better then.

Her feet patted against the wood and up the stairs. She made her way to her bedroom and let herself crash against the covers, feeling almost every stitch as she went down. Her high snuffed her brain into numbness, drifting off to sleep as she cuddled her pillow to her face, imagining it had been something else. Or someone.

A day passed, the high gone, Alex's smile gone with it. She ran out of weed and her sour mood was entirely showing. She trailed behind Ginny and Eliza as they entered school, a pair of sunglasses over the bridge of her nose. Was it possible to be hungover from smoking weed? Probably not. Maybe this is who she was when she wasn't with Marcus. Disgustingly depressing and the shell of who she truly was.

The idea haunted her mercilessly. Her rampant thoughts distracted her from the girl who had said her name. "Are you Virginia Miller and Alexandria Diaz?"

"Yeah," Ginny responded causing Alex to freeze behind her.

"Hi, I'm Rachel from the Wellsbury Tribune. We're doing a piece on the trial. What was it like growing up with your mom and grandmother?"Rachel asked causing Eliza to tug on both girls sleeves, trying to get them to go the other way.

"Suck dick, Rachel," Alex deadpanned causing Eliza to huff, exasperated with her recent attitude as she dragged the girl inside.

"I just need five minutes of your time," Rachel continued as Alex struggled against Eliza's grip. Ginny helped guiding her into the building. "Did you know your that her biological dad is in prison for attempted murder?"

Ginny froze and looked at her. "What?"

"Do you believe violence is hereditary?" Rachel quizzed causing Alex to attempt launching forward toward the girl. "Clearly it is."

"Alex!" Eliza growled, shoving the girl forward, in the other direction of Rachel.

"Fucking vulture!" Alex shouted over Padma and Hunter blocking them. Eliza cringed as they walked the girl into the school.
