subject 1 in the scientific journal of a dead space player: necromorphs and their biology (of both the initial parasite and the infected host)
in dead space, the chief enemies have always been necromorphs, scientific name necrois symbiont.
these undead enemies have been referred to as space zombies, necros, and rotters. but through scientific process I have found something astounding. these undead, are most definitely not undead by definition. the scientific definition of undead is a dead creature reanimated, as its brain activity has been reactivated and sustained by an oustide symbiont source.
instead, close observation has revealed a different truth. what I believe happens for a body to be reanimated as a necromorph, is a parasitic insect like creature crawls in to the throat as happens in one of the famous isaac clarke death scenes. but what happens next is a gut wrenching process.
this creature which i haved named a necrome for this books purposes, proceeds to wriggle down the throat and digestive system until it reaches the small intesine. then it extends its tentacles into the rest of the host body. it uses these tentacles to control all motor functions. this creates the well known tentacles that can sprout from freshly dismembered necromorph corpses. then the necrome lays eggs inside the host body, this is what allows the necromorph disease to be spread from infected to uninfected.
the reason for the rapid decay of all necromorphs lies in the process in which the disease is transferred. when it is transferred, one of the necrome hatchlings must make its way from the small intestine to the mouth of the infected. but in doing this, it causes the remaining stomach acid from the hosts days alive to be forced out of the mouth with the necrome, rapidly decaying the newly infected host. the biology of the new necromorph has been irreversibly changed.
as said before, the necromes tentacles have controlled the body, and if the necrome is neutralized so does the body as it is not truly reanimated-only controlled. thus the most effective way of killing the necromorph is to kill the necrome. and such is the weakness of the entire necromorph parasitic race.
