"Hey Percy. Do you have time to talk?" Hazel appeared just as I was ready to head back to the apartment on Blackjack. The sun had just gone down, so it was safer than broad daylight.
"Sure, Hazel. What is it?" I asked.
"The Mist. It's not just malfunctioning, it's gone."
I blinked a couple of times to process the information. "What?!"
"Yo Boss, we leaving?" Blackjack neighed. I ignored him.
"The entire Hecate Cabin feels it too," Hazel started talking faster. "Magic is still present in this world, but the Mist...it's not real anymore. You've seen how Mortals can see through the Mist now, right?"
I nodded, realizing what the young teen meant.
"So just a warning," the daughter of Pluto sighed. "Riptide isn't going to be a bat anymore. You might want to fight your monsters in a different way."
"I understand."
"Boss, I'm expecting sugar cubes for this," Blackjack muttered.
"You'll get your sugar cubes," I told the Pegasus.
"Percy, Blackjack isn't going to be a giant pigeon anymore either," Hazel mentioned as I climbed on gingerly.
"I know, that's why we're going at night."
"And if he gets captured by mortals?"
"I'll bust him out."
The girl sighed. "As long as Annabeth approves, I guess you'll be safe, then."
"Uh, well actually..." I ruffled my hair sheepishly. It must've slipped my mind when we were sparring earlier I never actually told her that I was going home on Blackjack...
