Beldina raced to her room and slammed the door shut, so they thought that she wouldn't know or couldn't find out about their silly little ploy or whatever it was, her father was much too soft in his old age, and the guy downstairs well, she really didn't want to think about him, he made her blood boil, in more ways than one, she humph'ed and turned around in a circle looking at nothing in particular, nothing to do much but change she thought discerningly, she quickly stripped slipping on a pair of shorts and a camisole she felt hot and bothered and too riled up to sleep, why had her father lied to her he was not like that, he had never lied to her or of what she knew of anyway, but she was positive he was lying she could just feel it, frustrated with herself and her father she quickly pinned up her messy hair and sat down on her bed nervously looking around again her eyes darted to the door than back again, then her fingers reached for the journal in the drawer near her bed, it wasn't her journal, it was her mothers actually, she had found it one day in her fathers room after her mother had passed away, she had actually stolen it if you put in the fact that she had found it hidden in the back of the wardrobe under boxes of shoes and stuff, then one day her father had asked her about it, Beldina had pleaded innocence saying she hadn't seen it, when in fact it was in her bedroom all the while, her father bereft with the lost of his wife hadn't second his daughters words and had in actual fact thought that his wife might have burnt or thrown it away, he had looked frantically for weeks, but she hadn't given it back then her father had stopped looking saying it was driving him mad.
Now Beldina sits with the journal in her hands, she opens it to the first page, she had read and reread this journal, but still she couldn't really understand what her mother was describing or talking about, the journal was in her mothers hand writing she knew this from the letters her mother had written her, she had also drawn pictures, and strange looking buildings and streets, Beldina didn't know what they were but she knew if she confronted her father he would know, but would not tell her, she had tried to approach the subject several times but he always laughed at her or either said that she had wild imagination, well her imagination was coming true because the guy downstairs was strange and he was certainly not an old friend, and her father was hiding something, she had to find out what.
She slowly opened it to the last page she had read up to and carried on reading, ¬We have been walking for hours and although James insist that we must, I am so tired, and I don't think I can carry on, the others are still with us, and we must find some place soon to rest, the child my daughter is restless too, she can feel the change, the change that will change us all, I am hoping that James was right, that leaving our home and our people and family was the right thing, our child will be brought up in a different environment what will she be like, how will she learn of our ways, and when I am gone will James remarry, I want it to be true, but in my heart it hurts, be brave my little one, your father is a good man he will look after you, when we left he promised me a good life, and that is what he gave me, but no matter how much he tried I missed my home and my family, James was different he didn't care, and he had embraced life here, Beldina never forget who you are and what you are, we are different, something unique please try and understand and don't be scared, don't confront your father about it, if he has not told you, he would be furious, leave him be for now and he will tell you in time.
When we fled I had known that everything would be different and that I would not last there, but I did not tell James,I couldn't do that to him, but you were all I was thinking of, to save you, and maybe your father, I want to tell you everything but I don't know if I will have enough time, the feeling of emptiness is growing and I know that there is not much time left, Beldina the time will come when you will have to make a decision please make it wisely think carefully and always follow your heart it will lead you in the right directions, I know this because I did the same, I followed James and not for one moment have I regretted it even if it killed me, I want for you the love I had, I want for you the loyalty only one of your kind can give you, no other can, listen to my words and heed what I say¬
